On a side note I look in our local paper at all the baby announcements just to see how many of the parents both have the same name. It use to be no one would ever announce unless they were married, now at least 80% have different last names. Kind of sad really......

My brother is married to my sister-in-law and they have different last names. It's not uncommon these days.

FYI:Having different last names doesn't mean you're not married.Been a Republican all my life and married to the same man 37 years. Two daughters and I didn't change my last name.
I know it's the custom still, but that wouldn't be a heads-up that the couple isn't married.
(PS.I agree with other comments.Too bad she didn't marry first...then kids)
