You two have the most "aromatic" screen names on FR! Is that allowed? LOL

Those hailstones pummeled the greenhouses, so I'll bet it was a fragrant scene of destruction.

Yesterday Rachel Ray was strolling around Florence (I could just smell those trattorias), and today I happen upon an Italian basil thread. Sigh...

I'm going to try growing basil indoors this winter....might be good for a leaf or two.

I started some basil in a little clay pot on my windowsill in February. It did really well. My 9 year old helped seed it, and boy was it thickly seeded! :)

Of course it wasn't as robustly flavored as the summer planted stuff, but it added a kick to spaghettii sauce and made for a nice leaf garnish on bruschetta.

I encourage you to give it a try. I'm in Minneosta BTW, land of very little winter sun.

I'm located in the Kansas City area. With temps well over 100 and a drought to boot, the basil took a hit this year. I pinch the flower buds off as soon as they start to form, so I normally have really bushy basil about 3 feet tall.

Basil are so fragile, how to do you keep them from dying off when the temps get into the 40's up there in Wisconsin?

OB doesn't know it yet, but the 10 year old mangy, leggy African violets are going. I may try growing basil and parsley in their place; the winter sun comes in pretty strong through that south window.

Parsley? Don't let any bunnies in the house!

Neither the bunnies nor the swuirrels seem much interested in the basil, so there's that.

Pesto is good stuff. And easy to make.

I bring the pot inside if I need to, but I rarely need to. It seems we have warmer weather later every year.
