Regardless of how I feel about the increased availability of hardcore porn on hotel pay-per-view systems, I am loathe to petition the government to increase its regulation into the content of what entertainment people can choose to purchase in their hotel rooms.

I agree that seeking to have the government intervene is misguided.

Stage a boycott if they find it to be important.

The American Library Association and public libraries need to be challenged (as they are accountable to the taxpaying public).

The ALA (and therefore virtually all libraries) holds the position that there is no such concept as "age appropriate material". The ALA won't restrict what materials go into the library and won't restrict access to any materials.

So if a library has an archive of Playboy (for the interviews, including those with President Jimmy Carter, or cultural and sociological studies), the ALA holds that minors should be given access even though it would be criminal for a newsstand to offer that same access.

I liken it to sewage spigots. You turn them on and it spews all over you and the floor and runs out of the window and under the door to the sidewalk. Then you walk out all covered in it and get everything dirty wherever you go.

It is not as simple as a benign individual choice. The availability of this particular kind of "choice" is one of the players in the trashing of our culture. It is a more hidden kind of "broken window" effect. Pornography says, "People are not people...people are body parts...they are objects to be used." A steady diet of this does not fail to affect the individual and those around him.

Yup.

If you don't like it, don't stay there and make it clear to corporate HQ that that's why.

As sinful and offensive as I find adultery, fornication, prostitution and homosexuality I can't imagine expending my energies on ensuring they don't occur in hotel rooms.

We have bigger fish to fry in 2006.
