That is what we are fighting in the war on terrorism. While I agree with you that trying to force people to be moral (or at least honest) is a bad idea, what we are fighting in the war on terrorism is the tendency to kill or maim innocent women and children in large numbers.
They are NOT the same thing. The effort to equate terrorism with sincere religious belief, even misguided religious belief, is wrong.
