Republicans can't wait to vote against Hillary: Giuliani

Republicans relish the prospect of Hillary Clinton running for president in 2008, just so they can vote against her, former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani was quoted as saying.

Giuliani, who is expected to be a leading candidate for the Republican Party nomination, described the New York senator and former first lady as a polarising force who ignited strong passions across the political spectrum, the New York Post reported.

"Democrats seem to support her as their main candidate for president -- she's way ahead of anybody else -- and it seems like Republicans are just waiting for her to be the candidate so they can vote against her," he said.

"She definitely creates passions on both sides," he added.

"Hillary probably has the distinction of being the best fundraiser for the Democratic Party -- and the best fundraiser for the Republican Party," he said.

Clinton has yet to officially state her intention to run, but has been tipped as the leading Democratic hope, ahead of other potential candidates such as husband Bill Clinton's vice president Al Gore, former senator John Edwards and 2004 candidate John Kerry.

A poll in Time Magazine, however, suggested that she would be pipped in a head to head challenge by top Republican contender Senator John McCain.

That's because he knows it's the only chance in hell he has of winning: if his opponent is even more noxious than him.

Works for me. I know he's not pro-life, but I'm not sure that would prevent me voting for him over McCain. Some people think McCain rode that POW thing too far already.

Guiliani is also pro-gay marriage and pro-gun control. McCain beats Guiliani, but not by much. Either one is so bad that I'd probably not vote in Guiliani or McCain vs Hillary Clinton presidential election. I'd still vote republican ticket for my congresscritters, but I wouldn't touch that obnoxious presidential race.

I understand what you're saying, but I think this situation is different from Clinton. Both Dole and Bush Sr had some very real, valid, conservative positions that were worth voting for. OTOH, Guiliani is pro-choice: so is Clinton. Guiliani is pro-gun control: so is Clinton. Guiliani is pro-gay marriage: so is Clinton. Guiliani is, at least, pro-war: Clinton claims the same, although that remains to be seen.

Do you see my point? I don't know that there is a great deal of difference between these two, unlike Bush Sr and Bill Clinton. Guiliani would be a little better, but in that situation I think it might be more useful in the long run to make the RNC understand that down south we don't like gun control, gay marriage, or abortion clinics. This is especially true if we successfully get out the vote for our republican senators and representatives.

But then again, I might be totally full of crap. It happens occasionally...

How many can you name that would be more noxious than Guiliani? Look, he could easily pass for a democrat. He's liberal on social issues, gun control, and moral values. The only thing that's left is how he is on spending. I suppose if he's a fiscal conservative that would be something.

Neither McCain or Guiliani (or most Republicans) are conservative in the vein of His Greatness, Ronaldus Magnus. It is a sad fact that I have accepted. That being said, can McCain or Guiliani be any worse on some matters than GWB, a self professed conservative?

Granted, McCain appears to be pro-life, Guiliani appears to be anti-gun, but if the election comes down to either McCain or Guiliani versus Hillabeast, I'll hold my nose and vote for the GOP candidate.

Let's face it, the Republican Party, even in its current form is the only force on this planet keeping the Islamo-Fascists from taking over.

I'll take McCain or Guiliani over Hillabeast anyday.

I suppose most "Republicans" do relish running against her.

It would mean less focus on those pesky issues they don't seem to live up to when in public office.

I can certainly see why Rudy would like to stump for her candidacy.

Conservatives strongly disagree with him 99%, but admire his position on the WOT and dismissal of the media. He's not like McCain in that he hates more than half of his party's own base. So, you couple WOT as the primary issue and "Hillary" hung over voters and, well, it's his best shot at a nomination.

I'm just a conservative. Without party registration. And I couldn't care less about her. I'm not even convinced she'll be their nominee. I'd find it far more believeable she ends up the next Ted Kennedy of the Senate.

I still think the Dems will run either a Warner type or a Gore type. Not Ms. Triangulation.

The only person that energizes me to defeat them in 2008 is John McCain.

I'd like to state someone energizes me to vote FOR them, but no ones stepped up yet.
