So, "...Israel was founded by secular people who were somewhat anti religious in their orientation." You also proclaim that, "...Israel does not have a strong philosophical foundation." You are truly a genius! You should consider a position at the U.N.

Perhaps I did not explain it well enough for you to understand. The Israeli founding fathers were secular, socialists, and somewhat anti religious. Socialism is dead. The kibbutz movement which they revered never attracted more than 4% of the population. Their hope was that the Arabs would be so impressed by their socialist success that they would join them. So which of these remaining ideas are the current generation of Israelis supposed to attach themselves to? That is why vague notions of a "tired nation" "a place that should be fun" get someone elected Prime Minister these days. It is not something people will tend to fight and die for but that is what dominates the culture, unless the religious and nationalist populations start to dominate.
