Hillary, McCain Almost Even in Poll

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton matches up well against Sen. John McCain in early polling about a possible presidential contest in 2008.

A Time magazine poll released Sunday found McCain, R-Ariz., at 49 percent and Clinton, D-N.Y., at 47 percent among registered voters when people were asked which candidate they would support for president if they had to decide now.

McCain had a 10-point lead over the Democratic nominee from 2004, Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, and a 9-point lead over 2000 Democratic nominee Al Gore in similar matchups.

Fifty-six percent of those surveyed said they have a favorable opinion of McCain and 53 percent said they have a favorable view of Clinton.

While Clinton is an early favorite to win the Democratic nomination for president, some have voiced concerns whether she be competitive with the Republican candidate in the general election.

The poll of 1,003 adults was taken July 13-17 and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

The only reason McLame has any popularity now is because the media loves him; however, if he is the GOP nominee in 2008, the media will destroy him to elect Hitlery.

If McCain is the nominee you can expect a big win for whoever the Democrats put forward. He will easily be painted as a loose cannon who cannot be trusted with the nuclear trigger. Goldwater-Johnson all over again.

Adults, not registered votors or likely voters. Poll includes a Sunday. It's August. Small sample size. Etc. Etc. Etc.

When did Time start working for the Clintons? (Or did they ever stop?)

Hilary will never win the nomination from the Democrats, McCain will never win the nomination from the Republicans, so this must be a poll for who could win, uhh... I donno.

Hildebeast will never get above a national 40-45% approval rating. Unless we have another Ross Perot, she is unelectable but still indictable.

I turned on one of the Sunday morning talk shows and sure enough, there was Broadway John. I'm so sick of that guy posing as a conservative spokesperson I could puke.

I can't wait to watch the same media leftists he's been whoring for, for years, rip him to shreds in 2008.

McCain and Hillary are equally repugnant so similar poll numbers are a surprise to nobody.

I seem to remember a similar poll that included a Guliani and Hillary match up, as well. Guliani would beat Hillary with a larger margin than McCain. Who says that either one will get the nomination?

"A Time magazine poll. ." Very few pollsters today have any integrity. They know what their client wants to hear and they proceed accordingly. Also any polling process that uses part-time workers (college students, drug addicts, etc.) to conduct polls will get a skewed product. The most accurate responses come with an automated questioner, which is I believe, what Rasmussen uses.
