Brace yourself. In the United Nations-brokered farce known as the cessation of hostilities in Lebanon, we may now be heading for the moment in which Secretary-General Kofi Annan jets to Beirut to crown as the heirs of Lebanon the hijackers of the Cedar Revolution the terrorists of Hezbollah.
Not that the U.N. has exactly expressed it that way. Annans office as of Friday afternoon would confirm only that Annan will likely go to the region in the weeks ahead. Israeli radio has been reporting that Annan will begin a Middle East tour on Monday in Lebanon, and go from there in what order is not clear to Israel, Syria, and Iran.
Whatever Annan might be cooking up, lets take a closer look at why Secretary Condoleezza Rice ought to suggest to Annan in the strongest possible terms that the next time he packs his bags, it should be not to tour the Middle East, but to leave the U.N. Until then, the world would be a lot better off if hed stay home. If Rice herself needs a reality check which after her own recent immersion in Middle East diplomacy seems likely she could start by looking up the information put out by her own State Department, which accurately lists Hezbollah as a terrorist group dedicated to eliminating Israel and setting up Islamic rule in Lebanon.
If Annan before stepping down in December is truly desperate to produce a legacy more edifying than Oil-for-Food and Kojos Mercedes, he could better spend his remaining four months in office actually enforcing his zero-tolerance policy against child rape by U.N. peacekeepers in Africa.

Soory for the screw up.
Does anyone honestly think kofi Annus is capable of brokering any kind of settlement short of padding his pockets? This guy is barely capable of tying his shoes.
Bump.
I would be willing to bet that this is exactly the order of visitation.
Puppet first. Enemy second. Intermediary third. Puppetmaster last.
This is one evil manipulative bastard. Annan is every bit as bad as Nasrallah and Adminahjab (sp? who cares).
It would be such a shame if he got caught in the crossfire.
I agree.
I could of agree with most. It is time the United States form its own alliances and take action against these rogue nations.
Kofi go home. UN out of US.
I like the idea of the US forming its own alliances. But I believe we also need to stay in the UN. We need to have people like Bolton in there. As bad as the UN is, it would be all that much worse and that much more corrupt without us.
The UN will cease to exist if we pull out. It is our money that keeps them going.
My guess is that he is, in fact, a very dangerous individual who uses his position and influence to advance the cause of the terrorist elements and to do damage to democratic, civilized nations. The recent spectacle of everyone running to the UN and hanging on Kofi's every word was disgusting. We know the truth about the UN and about this terrorist enabler, but we don't seem to be able to do anything about it.
And everyone knows it but do you see ANYONE (including the USA) doing anything about it? This SOB just keeps on truckin.
The U.S. has little control over what the UN does except to cut the purse strings of the sneaking leeches. You are on target with your insight into the enablers of terrorism.
Be a shame if his plane was shot down.
Its a failed organization. It failed a long time ago.
The Israelis can say that the pilot of Annan's plane refused to identify themselves so they had to shoot it down.
