Israel: Hezbollah used Russian missiles (bought by Iran and Syria and supplied to Hezzies)

JERUSALEM - Israeli officials said Friday that a senior delegation went to Moscow this week to complain that Russian-made anti-tank missiles were used by Hezbollah guerrillas in their 34-day conflict with Israeli forces in Lebanon.

Asaf Shariv, a senior adviser to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, said that the delegation had gone to Russia, but did not elaborate.

The anti-tank missiles proved to be one of Hezbollah's most effective weapons in combat in south Lebanon, killing many of the 118 Israeli soldiers who died in the clashes.

Israeli officials say that Iran and Syria passed the arms to Hezbollah after buying them from Russia.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mikhail Kamynin said Russia maintains strict controls over its weapons sales that "makes any inaccuracy in weapons destinations impossible."

Anatoly Tsyganok, head of Russia's Military Forecasting Center, ruled out the possibility that modern anti-tank weapons had reached Hezbollah through Russia or Syria.

"Any accusations alleging Russian or Syrian deliveries of anti-tank weapons to any forces in Lebanon are unfounded. The Israeli side has not presented any evidence of this, and it is unlikely that it will," Tsyganok was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying.

"Most probably, such weapons, should Hezbollah militants really have any, might have been brought to Lebanon through third countries," he added.

Katyushia rockets are also of Russian (Soviet) manufacture, they have been around in one form or another since WWII. If Hezbollah had them in their arsenal, it is not a huge leap of faith they had other Soviet weapons at their disposal. And chastising Russia for selling them to Lebanon (or more likely Iran) is like spitting in the wind.

Russian spokesman says that if Russian missiles had been used the cities would have been devastated, erased, reduced to ground level and a little more, so therefore the missile could not have been Russian.

Katyushia rockets are made in over 20 countries including Syria and Iran. It is nonsense to think these were Russian, when even the Israelis have admitted these were Syrian. The Fjar-3 and Fjar-5 are both Iranian.

The missile which hit the Israeli warship was a C-802, which is an Iranian reverse engineered Chinese Silkworm.

Investigate the source or those anti-tank weapons they were using that destroyed 30 Israeli tanks and I thing you will also find Russia was the maker.

But they are originally of Soviet design. From this account, there is no way of really knowing they are of Soviet or other manufacture. But I am willing to bet that since most probably came from Iran, they are probably mostly of Russian origin. Though we did sell them F-14's so who knows.

:::Shaking head in disbelief::: Katyusha rockets are low tech...very low tech. Indeed, if you have a good firecracker factory it would be a snap to make them. No, the Israelis have clearly stated the Katyusha rockets directed at them were manufactured in Syria.

A lot of their stuff is startlingly similar to ours. Cases in point:

M1A series

Stinger

TOW 2B

Tomahawk (with fixed instead of retractable wings)

M-109 Paladin

To the best of my knowlege, we never sold them any of this technology, the last thing they got from us was:

Exactly, and that is what most are missing. The Iranian Toophan 2 missile you show has a tandem warhead, which achieves exactly the same effect as the Russian Kornet missile. It is easy to see why Israeli forces would mistake the two.

We did sell them hundreds of American TOW missiles during Iran-Contra.

The only country apart from Israel that borders Lebanon is Israel. I'm sure that's how the weapons made it to Hezbollah. /sarcasm off.
