Five days would bring us to the 23rd, I think.

Good points. I'm still inclined to think, though, that the NYT would find some reason to blame us if we struck first ... especially since it puts the onus on us to produce the suspected nuke of Iran doesn't detonate it.

I agree with you on the ANWR, but I just don't see how we could in good conscience tell Israel not to respond to a WMD attack. Would we listen to an ally who told us not to respond to 9/11?

I also remember something about "pissing into the wind"! Our guys seem to try that too often.

I hope we can actually go and defeat these "people". To hell with political correctness, we are going to have to kill the last one of them, and their seed! I see little other path. They are completely brain-washed. The kids are already indoctrinated to kill us! They promise virgins... but they don't promise what they will look like!

More rampant speculation:

Because, they know that if they stike first they can be assured of a nuclear response which absolutely takes Iran off of the Map.

By waiting for Israel or the U.S. to strike they are arguably justified in their attack. This alone would not be enough to ward off a nuclear or overwhelming response. However, couple that with the fact that the missle will be launched by a proxy in an adjacent territory which adjacent territory as well as all people and military equipment will no longer exist after launching of the strike, and you have a frozen world body politic.

1. The nuke wasn't launched from Iranian territory;
2. All evidence of the nuke launch site, which evidence might tye in Iran (i.e. witness, those invovled, equipment and the like) no longer exists;
3. Iran was just attacked without provocation by Israel/Us;
4. It is argued or possilbe that a group sympathetic to Iran, which group acquired its nuclear weapon from the black market, launched of its own accord and not at the direction of Iran.

Given the above, Iran may indeed avoid reprisal on a wmd scale. This is their gambit. And even if they don't they still accomplish what they wanted to and to hell with the price (recall Iran has said wiping Israel off the map is worth the death of a significant portion of the muslim population. In any event, for reasons which follow logically from the state of the world they will still find themselves crippled and their nuclear ambitions dismantled in a violent way and thwarted for the rest of the forseable future.

This is what makes me ponder, "what the Hell are they thinking in Washington", when we know the items you mentioned are common public knowledge.

And just imagine ... the folks in Washington know a whole lot more than we do, because they've got information that isn't "common public knowledge," both in terms of what Iran's doing and planning; and in terms of when and how we could respond.

Now what would be wild would be if they provoke a first-strike and then on the 22nd say we were going to disavow any desire for a nuclear weapon, but since you attacked us first, we just ordered a bomb from our pals in NK.

Delivery time is 5-7 busness days...

It wouldn't serve the world if Israel destroys Iran. Well, actually it does. If it happens and Israel does counter, take out the Saudis, the Syrians and the Indonesians. Declare a global Jihad against Radical Islam.

It will be the only chance. Have Bolton clean out his desk, go to the Hamnptons for the weekend and level the UN.

You know, this Lebanese incident may have been a trial balloon to see if Israel and the US would ascede to UN demands for a ceasefire.

Disagree. I think Israel's highly muscular response to a mere kidnapping and a few rockets was a big surprise to the bad guys. As I've stated on various other threads, I think the IDF did the world a big favor by disrupting part of Iran's plans for 22 August.

In a vacuum that may be true, but there would be too much circumstantial evidence tying Iran to the crime. Iran has told us what they want to do, it would strain credulity for them to come back and say "It wasn't us." They aren't a plausible "victim." Not even the NYT would buy it. Well, maybe they would...

Plus, I don't think the bomb would be a one-off attack. Given the troop exercises, North Korean activity, etc. it seems to be a part of a bigger picture. It seems to me Iran is almost in "use it or lose it mode."

If Iran gets toasted, so will Syria. Saudi and Indonesia probably not.

One other log to throw on the fire - Syria moving the mines lining the border with the Golan Heights.

I think Israels move into lebanon was calculated by Iran to probe Israeli defenses. Syria is removing landmines on the border and Iran is getting ready to run military and missile exercises.

Lebanese troops are moving into Southern Lebanon per the ceasefire and France already chickened out. That move alone telegrahed what is going to happen.

My opinion? Syria is going to make a play for the Golan Heights with Iranian missile and lebanese military support with Iran providing reinforcements from Syria and Lebanon. Probably coordinated with a West Bank militant uprising.

Iran and Syria are preparing the battlefield and reinforcement routes with their attacks on the Kurdish strongholds in northern Iraq. I wouldn't be suprised if this is also coordinated with a shiite uprising in southern Iraq.

Theoreticlly, this could be a major Cluster F for the US both diplomatically and militarily.

I think the foiled bombings in the UK were to be the start of this. Deadly diversion.

I think when historians write about the upcoming war with iran and islam. They'll be incredulous at our naivete in not reading the signs (our = the West not FR or the US in particular). Iran has said it wants to wipe out Israel. Iran is run by leaders seeking islamic armageddon. Iran has relentlessl pursued a nuclear program. A three-year old child could connect the dots (quick -- someone get Europe a three-year old child).

What is the reference for the passage you posted? Is it biblical, because I couldn't find anything but your post when I googled part of it.
