Republicans Losing The 'Security Moms' (Barf Alert)
Washington Post ^ | Jim VandeHei

Posted on 08/17/2006 9:29:19 PM PDT by nj26

Married women with children, the "security moms" whose concerns about terrorism made them essential to Republican victories in 2002 and 2004, are taking flight from GOP politicians this year in ways that appear likely to provide a major boost for Democrats in the midterm elections....

Married mothers said in interviews here that they remain concerned about national security and the ability of Democrats to keep them safe from terrorist strikes. But surveys indicate Republicans are not benefiting from this phenomenon as they have before.

Disaffection with President Bush, the Iraq war, and other concerns such as rising gasoline prices and economic anxiety are proving more powerful in shaping voter attitudes.

The study, which examined the views of married women with children from April through this week, found that they support Democrats for Congress by a 12-point margin, 50 percent to 38 percent. That is nearly a mirror-image reversal from a similar period in 2002, when this group backed Republicans 53 percent to 36 percent. In 2004, exit polls showed, Bush won a second term in part because 56 percent of married women with children supported him.

Here in suburban Columbus, one of the most important arenas in the 2004 campaign, the diffusion of this support is obvious in interviews...

Jean Thomas, a married mother of one, said she still feels a pang of fear every time she boards an airplane for work travel around the Midwest. "Terrorism," she said, "is the biggest concern on a daily basis."

But she said she is "pretty frustrated with politics driving decisions" in Washington. That is why she said she is strongly considering abandoning her support of Republicans to vote for the Democrats challenging Rep. Deborah Pryce and Sen. Mike DeWine. Polls show that both Republican incumbents from Ohio are acutely vulnerable.

I wonder how many women were interviewed to find the ladies profiled in this article?

Year round the country is fed political vomit by democrat idiots trying to convince themselves they are relevant by virtue of their BS polls. The only poll that matters is the Nov. 4th results, and they get their butts kicked every time.

I don't recall many stories about Democratic voters switching to the GOP back in August 2002, do you? (Despite all their exhaustive polling at the WaPo)

Mostly the Code Pinko hags, I'm sure.

"She's pretty frustrated with politics driving decisions..."

Good lord. And the "see what the poll says" 'rats would make better decisions (about what they claim is not a threat anyway !?). Yea.

I think I'll believe this when I see Howard Dean fly over my house. Yeaaaarrrrgh!

"Security Moms" would only abandon Bush if he didn't kick enough ass.

"Wimp Moms" are the ones who would leave the war on terror for the "safety" of Democrats.

But she said she is "pretty frustrated with politics driving decisions" in Washington.

----

... so she is voting for the leftwing partisans who are CREATING the frustration through their desructive antics?!? Yeah, makes sense - NOT.

There might be some truth to it, but the fact remains. When they get in that voting booth who do they think will do a better job - the party of Murtha & Kerry????

We heard all of this before and it didn't pan out like predicted when people actually had to make a choice.

It's easy to throw DeWine's name in there. If he loses, it won't be because the "security moms" didn't support him. He's a very unlikable guy, a meely-mouthed turtle-looking man. As much as I can't stand Sherod Brown, I won't miss DeWine if he loses and if he wins the Ohio Republican party had better come up with a better candidate the next time around.

Unfortunately, the GOP is running several personally unlikable Senators in this election cycle. Senators that seem to be trying to lose the election.

Conrad ("pick a fight with the firefighters") Burns also comes to mind.

Mike DeWine on Nov. 7. Polls show that both Republican incumbents from Ohio are acutely vulnerable.

There appears to be just one problem. RedState has learned that there aren't too many Jean Thomas's in Columbus, OH. In fact, we're pretty certain the Jean Thomas quoted in the article from Columbus, OH is the same Jean Thomas who has voted in every Democratic primary since 1998. Why are we so sure? Because a source we have gave us enough information to pinpoint which Jean Thomas was talked to and we could go from there to confirm her Democratic voting record.

So, um, what point was VandeHei trying to make again?

(BTW, we have not ourselves called Ms. Thomas. We've tried, but get an automated message that there is something wrong with her phone line. The only other Jean Thomases who Mr. VandeHei could have talked to have said they were not in the story)

SUVs are getting expensive to fill up. Their housing ATM is maxed out. They've overspent and are bored with their toys.

They're going to take it out on the incumbents.

Buncha baloney. HOWEVER, soccer moms DO need a reminder. The GOP should run a tv spot immediately showing lots of dead baby scenes from Beslan, reminding moms that the terrorists are trying to do the same to their kids, and all the democrats want to do about it is cut and run and hide and give the terrorists rights our framers never envisioned.

Walis left wing religion lunacy here]. I am going to vote for a democrat the first time ever."

In reality some smelly lesbian who would make love to a male before she would ever vote for a republican.
