Shut up, Chinese diplomat tells US

By Harry Mount in New York

(Filed: 18/08/2006)

One of China's most senior diplomats has made an extraordinary attack on America, saying that it should "shut up" about China's growing military capacity when America dominates global military spending.

Sha Zukang, China's ambassador to the UN in Geneva, launched his diatribe in an interview with the BBC yesterday during a progamme about China's booming economy and military strength.

"It is much better for you to shut up, keep quiet," the ambassador said, referring to America, raising his voice to a high-pitched yell. "Are you the number one? Is it true that the US has almost 50 per cent of the world's military budget? The Chinese population is five or six times bigger.

Why blame China? Forget it. It's high time to shut up. It's America's sovereign right to do whatever is good for them. But don't tell us what is good for China."

The ambassador also said that China would be prepared to go to war with anyone over Taiwan.

"The moment Taiwan declares independence, supported by whoever, China will have no choice," he shrieked.

Completely polluted water supplies will make people act this way.

It's also the only viable reason why moonbat liberals are so heavily concentrated around cities. It's the public water system.

/sarc ... or not....

China is a paper tiger. Against many countries, the US is prepared to pussy-foot and potentially lose. Against China?? Man we would have to go all out.

And they would be toast.

Hey, we funded them, allowed them access to all of our most advanced military secrets and gave them a massive military through de-valued Yuan/trade imbalance. Why should they have respect for us? They got what they needed, how dare we complain about them preparing for war with us?

I look forward to the Joint Congressional Resolution, identical to the response toward Saudi Arabia. "It is hereby resolved that the United States of America will go t!ts up". We must appropriate a minimum of $250 million for military aid, so that the fine people of the Republic of China will like us more. After all, we bombed their embassy in Kosovo.

You can line up all the people in China five feet apart and march them into the sea. The line would never end.

I'd like to find out more about this claim that America spends 50% of the world's military budget.
How can that be when other countries have bigger armies, more tanks, purchase more aircraft per year, etc etc?
Is it because we make purchases from North America and West Europe as opposed to Asia and East Europe?

"the ambassador said, referring to America, raising his voice to a high-pitched yell"

High pitched whine more like.
Chinese already have high pitched sing song voices. I can just imagine how this guy sounded like when he went to an even higher pitch than usual. :)

The reason they go stark shrieking mad over Taiwan is not because of Taiwan but because of the example it will set for the other regions that make up the Chinese Empire. If ones goes splitsville, then all may go splitsville.

The Chinese government is not loved. They are heavily dependent on resources brought in by sea (which we could interdict quite easily). We could block oil shipments and also take out hydroelectric dams and the country would have almost no power at all. Food shortages would result. Famine and revolution would create a massive die-off in a very short time.

We don't even need an army. No boots on that ground -- a land war in Asia is famously foolish. We could win at a distance.
