What's Wrong with Profiling?
FamilySecurityMatters.org ^ | August 17, 2006 | Ben Shapiro

Religious/racial profiling will highlight a stark choice for the mainstream Muslim community: either they will fulfill the pessimistic expectations of Tarique Ghaffur and turn toward terrorism, or they will begin to expose potential terrorists in order to stop the hijacking of their communal image. If they opt for deeper and more prolonged association with terrorism, no amount of kowtowing would prevent that association in any case – just ask the French. The Muslim community can, however, quash the plague of terrorism from within; profiling will end the moment they do. Until then, we cannot afford to take chances with our security.

The profiling issue continues to stun me. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but I continue to believe that people really do want the best for America. But when they can't even be counted on to acknowledge that the people blowing up planes are all of one religion, so maybe those should be the people patted down first in an airport, I start to lose faith.

I'm in total agreement. Looking the other way isn't P.C., it's stupid.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

This morning I heard a report that uniformed U.S. military returning from service are being profiled, in at least one airport and made to go through the intense search.
If this is true, at least one person should be fired. Someone should start writing fast food applications.

When Hillary's Prez
and you or I get stopped for
running a stop sign,

the policemen will check
their database. Then we'll hear,
"Oh, you're a Freeper!

They're trouble makers.
Step out while I search your car . . ."
I'm sure profiling

is gonna help in
the war against terrorists,
but you know we're next . . .

Hillary will never be President; your hysteria is unwarranted.

I'm all for profiling. Long overdue in my opinion. But I have some questions for criminal justice / terrorism experts:

1) What unbiased studies exist out there on profiling?

2) How do you profile your blonde hair, blue eyed (as an example) converts? Or those Muslims that don’t look typically Middle Eastern? It’s not as if you declare your religion when you fly. It seems to me that it is only a matter of time that a terrorist from perhaps the Balkans tries something. Would profiling enable the authorities to identify him as a terrorist? How?

These probably seem like stupid questions, but I see a lot of claims of profiling doesn’t work and in my gut I don’t agree with that, but it does raise some questions in my mind.

The advantage of profiling is that it lets the terrorists know what to avoid.

Profiling is a very useful tool. It is not foolproof and it won't catch every terrorist, but we are idiots is we don't use it.

Even the FBI profiles serial killers, etc., and for good reason (it often works).

PC is why we don't use it, and PC will get us all killed if we follow it blindly.

"The advantage of profiling is that it lets the terrorists know what to avoid."

Yes, they can put masks on to look like non-muslems. It would not be easy for them to avoid profiling. Yes, they could recruit non-muslem looking people, but how many of them have you seen blowing up stuff?

"2) How do you profile your blonde hair, blue eyed (as an example) converts? Or those Muslims that don’t look typically Middle Eastern?"

It would be much harder to profile those type of people. However, all the terrorists that I have seen so far look very mid-eastern and would have been easy to profile, so profiling will work in many (not all) cases. How many blonde hair, blue eyed terrorists have you seen blow up anything lately?

None that I know of. But I imagine that it would only be a matter of time before AQ recruits your average, blend in with the crowd convert.

That's correct. A member of the military is required to carry their ID with them at all times.
