An Islamic militant jailed in connection with the 2002 Bali bombings was released from prison Thursday while 11 others linked to the blasts received sentence reductions.
The militants had their sentences cut by four months to mark Indonesia's independence day. The reduction allowed one of the men to walk free after completing his jail term.
Officials say the 12 militants carried out robberies, financed the attacks and sheltered key figures in the nightclub bombings that killed 202 people, many of them foreign tourists.
Indonesia often reduces prison terms on holidays, but the move is likely to draw protests from Australia and other countries whose citizens died in the bombings.
Thirty-three people were convicted and jailed for the Bali attacks, blamed on the al-Qaida-linked group Jemaah Islamiyah. Three key figures are to be executed next month.
Other prisoners receiving sentence reductions today include Australian Schapelle Corby, convicted of smuggling marijuana to Bali island. Two months were taken off her 20-year sentence.
Are you kidding, I thought it was the death penalty for pot? Kill infidels, get a slap on the wrist and an atta-boy, Mohammad Atta-boy that is.
Please recall that the Indonesians were Bill Clinton's buddies, maybe they learned the art of pardons from him?
We need someone to make another axis of evil speech, someone who won't apologize after. Fundimentalist Islam needs to be focused on, condemned, and fought.
Well, isn't that Speeeeeeee - shul!!!
Do Australians still go to Bali? If so, they are rewarding corruption that threatens their lives.
Did any of these terrorists get a severe penalty for killing 202 people?
Three key figures will be executed, now that there little henchmen are free to carry on the "good fight."
"Three key figures will be executed, now that there little henchmen are free to carry on the "good fight.""
I'm sure the henchmen have changed their ways. NOT!
What??????
I'll bet you a sawbuck these guys would be hanging from the yardarms if they were involved in the mass murder of Idonesian bigwigs.
The Indonesian government values killers more than potheads.
