Word Perfect before it was hijacked by MS Word.

I was able to write the most awesome macros.

Now I waste too much time battling MS Word because it always wants to think for me.

Word Perfect before it was hijacked by MS Word.

And my favorite old word processor was Wordstar, before it was hijacked by Word Perfect. Had a lot of fun with Wordstar on CP/M machines.

Keep using it, I do. Just because Word has taken over, as an inferior product in my opinion, every attorney I know, and I think nation wide still uses Word Perfect. When my kids school started using Word, and my kids asked me to have Word on my computer at home, I refused. When they used both, at age 12 and 13 they liked Word Perfect better, it has WYSIWYG, Word doesn't.

My friend works for Social Security in Seattle, when Word came out, in about 1983 or 1984, Bill Gates personally visited the Social Security offices trying to convince them to switch from Word Perfect. They finally did. She said they had to rewrite all the Macros they had set up over the years on Word Perfect, to the tune of millions of dollars to tax payers.

I use Eudora as my email program, superior to IE and I get way less spam.

"...it always wants to think for me.

This is one of my pet peeves. To have a program anticipate my "needs" and do it, when that is not really what I want it to do.

I am a casual users of most programs. I learn just enough to do what I want it to do. If I want help, I would ask for it, yet more then once I will be typing away and look up to discover something really unexpected happen as the software decided it knew what I wanted to do better then me.

Bah!

Yes, I always liked WordPerfect too. It was better than MS Word.

Do you mean the current version of Corel Word Perfect is not so hot?

WP is a truly great program. Precisely its adaptability for the user makes it so powerful. So don't worry about its adoption of Windows -- just change the settings to the old programs. My keyboard is set, with my own changes, to WP 6.1.

I've been using it this way for years. Wrote two books on it, in fact, and the next volumes will be written with it the same. Great program!

Word Perfect before it was hijacked by MS Word.

You're one of those that liked it when it was all blue screen with the funky coding at the bottom right?

Heh... It was ~not~ easier then, it took 14 steps to do anything... you just liked it better because it had taken you so long to learn the steps.

"Word Perfect before it was hijacked by MS Word."

THANK YOU!!! You are so right! WP is so much more powerful than Word; Word a toy compared to WO. I hate and despise MS Word; it is software from Hell. I spit on Word.

WP 5.1 for DOS was by far the best piece of software I ever used. It was essentially bug free.
