When the news emerged last week that a terrorist plot to detonate liquid explosives on as many as 10 flights from the UK to the U.S. had been thwarted, reactions were mixed.
Democrats, apparently unable to react to developments that dont require Bush-bashing, somehow managed to twist the success into a failure. Repeating the absurd mantra that terrorists would not be targeting the U.S. if not for the war in Iraq, the Democratic Party showed itself incapable of understanding the world we live in yet again. That the very surveillance tools British authorities used to crack the case are the ones liberals have consistently opposed here in the U.S. didnt seem to register.
On the far left fringes of the country, where such goings on are often dismissed as fictional elements of the so-called war on terrorism, there were conspiratorial mutterings about a Karl Rove plot to distract attention from the Ned Lamont win in Connecticut.
Others were more inclined to embrace reality, but showed more concern for the inconvenience faced by airline passengers than for the plot itself.
All of them missed the point.

Can the war on terror be fought and won in a society that is so burdened by political correctness that it refuses to acknowledge that religion is the most frequent motivator for our enemies? According to FSM Contributing Editor Cinnamon Stillwell, it will be an extremely difficult, if not impossible, task.

I'm starting to suspect that what should be, historically, a huge Democrat win in November, will be a disaster for them.
Americans to the right and in the middle, politically, aren't going to roll the dice on their children's chances of getting blown up by a terrorist while Bush is fighting attempted impeachment.

In the meantime, we might ponder whether political correctness is really worth dying for.
No, it is NOT and it can't be said often enough!!
Great article.
