"The French commander of UNIFIL, Maj.-Gen. Alain Pellegrini, said Tuesday that his peacekeeping force will not attempt to disarm Hizbullah."
What else is new?
UN wants to protect Hezbollah...somebody post that photo of a UNIFIL post with Hezbollah's flag flying right next to the UN blue!
Yes, it appears that no one is willing to try and disarm Hizballah. So they will be trucking in 10,000 more missiles (and better ones) while the UN does nothing and Lebanon does nothing. And when the fighting starts again, they will blame Israel and the US.
"deadly farce" is right. I'm speechless that such charades are being played.
To make it politically impossible for Israel to do anything when the Hezzies start shooting rockets and kidnapping Israeli soldiers.
lol
I don't think they'd stay human shields for long. 15,000 troops sympathetic to the Hizbollah cause are bound to play a more active role in defeating the Zionist Aggressors. Either that, or they'll cut and run.
"Its official. Neither the Lebanese nor the UN will disarm Hezbollah. Et Tu, Olmert?"
To paraphrase Churchill re: Chamberlain:
"He had a choice of shame or war. He chose shame and he shall have war!"
I agree. It seems that the IDF fought for nothing.

Charade is correct, the UN is used by the civilized nations for a "dignified" surrender to the Islamic Cults.
Sickening.
I think this is much more insidious. France met w/Iranian officials and Syrian ones in Lebanon while the negotiating was going on for a U.N. resolution. I think they all knew what the game plan was going to be upfront. Snooker the U.S. into going along w/a redraft of the resolution that would favor the Hezzie's rather than the Israeli's. Bolton wanted to hang tough, but Condi, with, I'm afraid, Bush backing her, wanted a cease fire bought at the cost of appeasment by backing the weakened and pro-Hezzie resolution.
Israel via Olmert, capitulated to what Condi (via Bush) wanted, as he is a weak PM who doesn't know how to fight a war, dragged it out, and won little in the process other than to make Israel look weak. He didn't use the leeway initially given to him by the Bush Admin to Israel's advantage, which led to Condi holding sway and convincing Bush to go along w/the weakened draft resolution. The French/Syrians/Iran/Lebanese gov't all knew that once they suckered us (the U.S.) into the resolution that ended up being passed, they would sabatoge it (I suspect Annan was in on this also) to their further advantage, which they have done.
UNIFIL was never going to disarm Hezbollah, the French were never going to do it, the Lebanese Army is going to move down to provide Hezbollah w/a buffer zone in South Lebanon while Hezbollah will rebuild its armaments and strength w/the aid of Syria and Iran. And the Lebanese Army also will not disarm Hezbollah. This was all pre-planned, and we were stupid and/or naive enough to go along with the U.N. plan, thinking they would actually honor their commitments. What a joke. What fools both the Bush Admin and Olmert's Israeli Admin are. Now Israel will have the Lebanese token troops (consisting of 1/3 Shia soldiers) between them and being able to stop Hezbollah from once again causing trouble by lobbing the occasional rocket and/or missile at Israel, while rebuilding both their terrorist military and political strength. Also, Israel now looks like it can be had.
Because she did not prosecute a war to actually win, Israel looks vulnerable and weak to her enemies. Hence today, belligerent speeches and claims of a win coming out of the mouths of both Syria and Iran, with the usual ranting against both Israel and the U.S and how our "plans" for the Middle East have been thwarted. And of course, the U.N. via Kofi Annan, will stall even sending in any UNIFIL troops. It was supposed to be a few weeks and the troops would begin pouring in to aid the Lebanese Army. Now the U.N. is saying it will take a YEAR to get the troops in. Why would it take that long? There is no reason, other than a desire to not send them in at all. Another pre-planned move by our alleged "allies" so that all that would end up being in there would be part of a weak Lebanese Army that can't or won't disarm Hezbollah at all.
So, the enemy has achieved much; Israel, and by proxy the U.S., have gained little. Some destroyed infrastructure and buildings in S. Lebanon, which the sucker West will pay to rebuild with our tax dollars, but the actual enemy terrorists, mostly alive, hiding up in N. Lebanon, are now moving back into Southern Lebanon under cover of a flood of "civilians" (collaborators) returning home. I'm sure the Hezbollah high command has urged these "citizens" to move back immediately to provide them with cover and make it impossible for the Israeli troops still left in Lebanon to ascertain friend from foe. This is my analysis, and I'll bet you a plugged nickel I'm dead on here.
This whole "war" was a sham and doomed to failure, from start to finish. Of course Olmert and the Bush Admin are trying to spin it as a win, but everyone knows in their gut that it was anything but that. The only hope I can take out of this is that Israel will be so PO'd w/Olmert and his Admin that they will kick them out and hire Likkud (with, hopefully Bibi Netanyahu as PM) so that they have someone who will take it to the Hezzie's and others if necessary, when the next war hits, which will inevitably occur, probably sooner than later. Some seasoned hands with prior war experience is needed immediately. Hope Israel wises up or it is dead man walking.
