The French commander of UNIFIL, Maj.-Gen. Alain Pellegrini, said Tuesday that his peacekeeping force will not attempt to disarm Hizbullah.
Dealing with Hizbullah, Pellegrini said, was an internal Lebanese matter, and the 15,000 UN troops to be deployed under his command would not get involved. It was up to Lebanon, he said, to deploy its army in the south and deal with the Hizbullah presence.
Pellegrini said reinforcements for the UN personnel already in Lebanon were needed quickly, because even one "stray act" could sabotage the cease-fire between Israel and Hizbullah.

I expect that the UN is there to protect Hizbollah while it nurses its wounds and rearms.

The Secretary General is buddies with Nasarallah, the leader of Hezbollah

Maybe the U.N. can get them addicted to Twinkies, so they get too fat and lazy to want to fight.

The French commander of UNIFIL, Maj.-Gen. Alain Pellegrini, said Tuesday that his peacekeeping force will not attempt to disarm Hizbullah. So basically these guys are human shields to protect the terrorists.

In other words, they serve no useful purpose. This is a joke, Israel should just go ahead and finish the job and disarm them instead. If it means killing them all, so be it. Amen.

Maybe they should change their acronym to UNIFAIL.

As prediectd by Freepers, the French wave the white flag to Hizbullah even before getting there.
That's a new how?

There is probably a picture of Annan greeting Mr. Olmert, too.
However, Mr. Annan has made it pretty clear that he supports Hezbollah.

Yup.
Real question is, why did Bush and Condi agree to such a stupid French "ceasefire" and UN resolution, with a toothless French contingent in South Lebanon?
Anyone reading FR knew this nonsense was coming.

According to my reading of the agreement, it is the Lebanese who are to recieve the Hezbollah arms - it's in their court.
If they do not disarm Hez, then it is on the head of the Lebanese. They agreed to do it to acheive the ceasefire they said they wanted.
The agreement will be broken of course, but Lebanon will have less than a leg to stand on to reclaim its victimhood.
No one with any sense expected the agreement to end the war or the problem; if it brings the Lebanese to account for it, it will have accomplished some good.

And they actually signed such a stupid agreement?
Hello?
When did the Lebanese Army ever disaram Hizbullah before?
Read this:
"Hizbullah likely to retain its weapons in s. Lebanon

not hand over its weapons to the Lebanese government but rather refrain from exhibiting them publicly, according to a new compromise that is reportedly brewing between Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Seniora and Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah"
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1683838/posts
So now, neither the French the UN , nor the Lebanese Army is prepared to take responsibility for disarming Hizbullah, and everyone is busy playing "catch" and "pass the back" right now.
Maybe Condi will explain to us exactly what she was thinking, when she agreed to this useless "ceasefire" resolution?
