Deep inside city jails, top cops keep a watchful eye out for terror [NYC]
DAILY NEWS ^ | August 13th, 2006 | ROBERT F. MOORE

An elite group of correction officers, cops and federal agents is closely monitoring suspected radicals at city jails to prevent them from recruiting angry and isolated prisoners into their fold. Authorities believe the jails, along with prisons across the nation, could become fertile recruiting grounds for homegrown jihadists who follow the teachings of Osama Bin Laden and other Islamic terrorists.

Aware of the great risk, city correction bosses created the specialized intelligence unit on Rikers Island to stop fanatics before they can indoctrinate others.

"We aggressively monitor all security risk groups," Martin Horn, who runs the city's Department of Correction, told the Daily News. "We have our own intelligence unit and we're always looking at inmate alliances."

Last week's arrest of dozens of accused Islamic terrorists - most of them Britons who allegedly plotted to blow up airliners bound for New York and other U.S. cities - underscores the growing threat of homegrown extremists.

Even before the terrorist ring was exposed, FBI Director Robert Mueller warned that radical Islamists had been spreading their depraved philosophy behind bars in the U.S.

"Inmates may be drawn to an extreme form of Islam because it may help justify their violent tendencies," Mueller said this summer. "These persons represent a heightened threat because of their criminal histories, their propensity for violence and their contacts with criminals."

Mueller said there are more than 5,000 extremist Web sites that prisoners, in varying degrees, can gain access to. That exposure, along with active recruitment, has helped change the face of terror.

They should also keep an eye on Charlie Rangel's office.

Rangels office and Clintons place in Harlem.

They've both consorted with known terrorists.

Moderate muslims are apostates. Islamofascists are doing the job their faith teaches.

Excuse me, but if corection officers haven't already been doing this then they shouldn't be working. There's been gangs in prison forever. Gangs or terrorists, same thing. Of course, since poor widdle prisoners must have access to whatever made up religion of the week is floating around, they're quick to file grievances.

Why are the murder cultists allowed into anyplace in this nation to begin with?

Their only contributions to society are hatred and murder! Do we realy need more of these?

Saudi Arabia (home of the pagan idol whoreship at mecca) does NOT allow bibles, torahs, or any other religious worship! Isn't it time we reciprocated?

Sat. night I was clicking around and alighted on the nth replay of an MSNBC program on Rikers Island. They have a special unit for new mothers. Ministering to these women as chaplain was a muslim woman and I couldn't help wonder why. Islam is still a small religious minority in this country so how is it that this woman came to be the person seeing after the spiritual needs of these women? Was she the single person to seek the office? Did no others care? No baptists, catholics or methodists?
I do know that there have been a number of muslim chaplains who have gotten up to no good in our prisons & in the military.
Just a musing.

almost all of the muslim chaplains in american prison cells (and our military for that matter) are Wahabbi. They are recruiting an army right under our noses. We have at least a few million disgruntled prisoners in our midst. Mosques are going up at record pace in Mexico and Canada. Once built, they are considered part of the Holy Land and should be defended. They are also great places to launch attacks into the United States. There were twice as many Lebanese with Canadian passports as there were with American passports. We are all sitting here with our heads in the sand on this one fighting about Hillary this and Bush that when we should be figuring out a sensible way to sort the good ones from the bad ones. Step one is even admitting that a problem exists....
