UN diplomacy may not end conflict: Lebanese President
AM Radio Show, ABC Austrialia. ^ | August 11, 2006 | Matt Brown

Posted on 08/12/2006 4:28:06 AM PDT by Leisler

AM - Friday, 11 August , 2006 08:42:00 Reporter: Matt Brown TONY EASTLEY: British Prime Minister Tony Blair believes an agreement on a United Nations resolution for the conflict in Lebanon could be reached within the next 24 hours, but it's made little difference on the ground.

Columns of Israeli tanks moved into two border towns, but said it had put its broader offensive on hold to give diplomacy a chance.

The difficult diplomatic path ahead has been highlighted by comments made by the President of Lebanon, Emile Lahoud, who says he can't guarantee Hezbollah won't be able to re-arm during any ceasefire with Israel.

He spoke to Middle East Correspondent, Matt Brown, at the Presidential palace in Beirut.

EMILE LAHOUD: Much of the area of the south was occupied by the Israelis for 22 years. And if it weren't for the resistance we couldn't have had it liberated. So all they are saying is that the only force that was standing in the face of Israel, to disarm it and then Israel can stay and whenever it wants, like it did in '82, come to Beirut and occupy Beirut.

MATT BROWN: But you are proposing a plan that involves deploying the Lebanese army to the south now.

EMILE LAHOUD: As long as, if they go back to the blue line, they stop the fire, 15,000 of these troops will go there and make security in the area. It's not a matter of disarming Hezbollah. It's a matter of having the rights of Lebanon.

MATT BROWN: But you would have your armed forces in the south, the armed forces of the state of Lebanon instead of this militia.

EMILE LAHOUD: The arms of Hezbollah is something to do with Lebanese to solve it between themselves. It has nothing to do with outside of Lebanon.

MATT BROWN: But they have the ability to fire rockets at a neighbouring state, Israel.

EMILE LAHOUD: You are asking me about Hezbollah having missiles and you don't talk anything about Israel having airplanes that are hitting with phosphorescent bombs at the same time with three tonne bombs, with smart bombs and then you say, why they have these few missiles they have? It's not fair. You are looking at it from the Israeli point of view. As you know, all the Arab countries were defeated in six days. Now it has been one month. And it could take much longer, believe me. We don't want that.

MATT BROWN: You've been quite congratulatory, haven't you, of Hezbollah, of their ability to resist Israel's invasion of Lebanon?

EMILE LAHOUD: Of course, Hezbollah is the force that was able to liberate the land of the south in the year 2000. And now as you see it has been already a month standing in the face of Israel and believe me, Israel will not be able to beat it, because they don't know where they are. Nobody knows where they are. Even the ministers of the Hezbollah who are in the government don't. And that's what makes its strength and they used to tell it all the time.

MATT BROWN: Given your approach and your attitude to Hezbollah, why shouldn't we believe that your government would authorise further arms shipments to Hezbollah?

EMILE LAHOUD: Always, nobody can bring, ship any armament to Lebanon unless the Government allows. It has been like that all the time.

MATT BROWN: Did the Government allow the arming of Hezbollah with missiles in the first place?

EMILE LAHOUD: Of course not, the Lebanese Government never allowed anybody to bring arms from anywhere.

MATT BROWN: So how would you stop it from happening again?

EMILE LAHOUD: Well I tell you, the only way is to stop the fire and then not have any reason for them to shoot. So why are you looking at the side-effects? Look at the main problem. The main problem is that Israel is occupying still a land of Lebanon.

MATT BROWN: You are very close to Syria, the Government in Damascus, do you feel that in a sense they are operating a proxy war here, using Hezbollah to do battle with Israel?

EMILE LAHOUD: I am very friendly with the Syrians because the Syrians, when I started the army I didn't know anybody of the Syrians, they were the only ones that helped me to have this national army that is going now to the south.

MATT BROWN: An army that won't disarm Hezbollah.

EMILE LAHOUD: An army that is national, and the resistance is national. You want the national army to disarm the national resistance, which is complementary to the army but without having the same operation room? And that's the only way to fight a very strong army like Israel.

TONY EASTLEY: Lebanese President Emile Lahoud with Matt Brown, our Middle East Correspondent in Beirut.

The lying bastids cant get their story straight for 5 minutes during an interview. The Lebanese are Hizballah and they are both controlled by Syria and Iran and the citizens of the country are hostage to terrorists and half dont even know it.

After reading this BS, I conclude that Hezbollah and Lebanon's Gov't are one and the same as the DNC and the MSM are one and the same.

So now we have columns of tanks speaking?

lahoud is Syria's man on the scene as is Nabih Berry. the Cedar Revolution has been dead in reality for some time. it is Hezbollahstan. the question is: which speaks for Israel: the current offensive or the ceasefire resolution.

The Arabs are masters of double talk. For the most part, they have been outsmarting the Americans for decades.

Possibly akin to the speaking grenade described in Star Ship Troopers, (the book, not the lame movie.)

Israel needs to go in and occupy this region again. If they meet resistance they should expel the local populous.

Israel tried apeasement in Gaza. Now they are trying it in Lebanon.

It appears that Israel will accept defeat for the first time ever. Defeat in the sense that they will not accomplish their goals of getting their soldiers back and moving the terrorists far enough away from their borders.
Their Chamberlin-like Prime Minister is entirely to fault for the situation.

Get ready for more war and death later on.

I don't think that is quite useful. Masters of double talk implies a degree of rationality. They are not rational. This is why they can never figure out manufacturing, or a decent university or any political stability. The Arabs are tribe of functional psychotics. The street people of the world writ as nation states. Mostly they exist in a smoke of psychological delusions. They have reached a critical mass that children are patterned to interpret the world this way into adult hood. This is why a contract or diplomacy or even punishing war doesn't work on this species. The west is dealing with 500 million permanently brain damaged psychotics.Actually, there's nothing in Darwin to say that Arab adaptation is brain damage. It just 'is'. Brain Damage implies repair, or cure.

Actually, the Arabs are pretty good and playing the "Good Cop, Bad Cop" game. Arafat perfected it and completley took in Bill Clinton and even the Elder Bush.

Lebanon is also playing Good Cop, Bad Cop, with the Lebanese Government playing the former, and Hizzbollah playing the latter. Of course, they all work for the same team, but it is useful for them to pretend that they are at odds.

Syria doesn't recognise Lebanon as a sovereign nation.

Islam is to Arabs what the CIA is to street people. It isn't the cause, it's just a notion that in the mental mirrors of the Arab mind explains the outside world to them. Granted it is a vile explanation. But, that may be why Islam is so attractive and comfortable, because their mind is already in a dark place.

It won't.

It will restrict Israel's ability to defend iiself and cost the Israeli's more lives.

The u.n. is the best ally a outlaw Nation ever had and if both Israel and the United States are to survive they need to get out of the u.n. And in the case of the U.S. get the u.n. out of the U.S.
