Terror arrests signal a new reality (Liberal Whiiine Alert)
Philadelphia Inquirer ^ | 8/11/2006 | John Grogan

Posted on 08/12/2006 4:08:02 AM PDT by dirtboy

was in London last month during what every Briton I spoke with agreed was a very lousy week.

The country was locked in a withering heat wave, with precious little air-conditioning to be found anywhere. The English football team was knocked out of the World Cup, and its superstar player David Beckham tearfully stepped down as team captain. At Wimbledon, Britain's great hope, Andy Murray, went up in flames.

- snip -

Here is the horrible reality of terrorism: Even when they lose, they win. Even when they are stopped, they succeed. At least by degrees.

They win by unnerving and affecting us all.

They win as tens of thousands of travelers queue up to throw out countless dollars' worth of liquid cargo - everything from hair gel to liquor.

They win as carry-on luggage must be checked, and bottled water is considered a potential threat.

They win as flights are canceled and travel is snarled worldwide, including here at Philadelphia International Airport, where security waits stretched to two hours yesterday.

They win as the stock markets respond in an irrational panic.

They win at every tightened security checkpoint and with every new draconian rule.

I'm glad this guy wasn't around during WWII. He would have found gas rationing, the draft and military censorship as proof that the Germans and Japs were winning.

What a weenie. Because of a bit of inconvenience, the terrorists are winning. No wonder the Islamists think we're soft, reading crap like this.

We should have let the plane bonmbings proceed. By stopping the plan, we will just make them angrier and create more Jihadists, right?

The argument they make is totally nonsensical. If they want to live under Sharia law, they should move to SA or Iran or pack into Pakistan.

Sounds like France would be a more suitable nation for him to wave his white flag in. There he could just blend in with the rest of the surrender monkeys.

"Here is the horrible reality of terrorism: Even when they lose, they win. Even when they are stopped, they succeed."

No, John.

When terrorists are stopped--they are destroyed or permanently incarcerated; their base support is destroyed; and measures, often extreme measures, such as killing them and those who support them, are taken by the wise and resolute. Consequently, they are prevented from committing acts of terror. They do not win. And they do not succeed.

It's that simple. It's curious that someone as simple minded as you cannot comprehend something this simple.

You seem incapable of understanding this. Perhaps you should retire to the country, defer to those who do understand it, and get interested in something other than expressing witless opinions. (Try basket weaving or croquet, maybe knitting lace doilies.)

Here is the horrible reality of terrorism, John: People like you who cannot or will not comprehend reality are the enablers of terrorists, the reason they win, and the reason they succeed.

It is really quite simple: When terrorists loose, they do not win. When they are stopped, they do not succeed.

The important point is to prevent them from winning and succeeding.

Or, let's try phrasing it this way: The important point is to stop terrorists and make them lose.

Why you cannot understand this I don't know, but since you can neither lead nor follow, you should get out of the way. Or do you even lack to wit to do that?

Here's another fine whiiine from Grogan:

Time to unload on gun stupidity (Triple Philly Socialist Hurl Alert)

When it comes to controlling guns, Pennsylvania is a national embarrassment. Our legislature proudly refuses to place even the most superficial of restraints on gun buyers and owners.

If these morons had the wit to comprehend how mindless their ravings are, they would be so embarrassed they would never show their faces again. But if they had that much wit, they wouldn't issue such mindless ravings in the first place.

well, I have my complaints, too, but the writer here is just a plain, little chickenshit. He'd be the kind running over to British lines in 1779 with a limp wrist saying "oh my! please don't shoot, please don't shoot, i'm not part of this insurrection. some of those troublemakers are down in that barn. don't shoot!"

Should be called "In praise of fashionable defeatism."

I know it's hip to say that whatever we do to stop terrorism only helps curtail our civil rights, thus doing the terrorists' bidding, but that's such a retarded view of fighting a war that it deserves only giggles. Yes, every war involves change and temporary curtailing of SOME rights and actions. In EVERY war, the soldiers have to alter their chosen lifestyles to fight it--I guess by this guy's way of thinking we should not have fought WW2, or even TRY to defend ourselves, since that is "letting them win" or whatever.

But that's just nonsense. You have to get off your ass and give up SOME things to achieve ANYthing in life. This childish "Whaaaa, we have to do things and we're scared so the terrorists have won!" crap fills me with contempt. I can only tell this writer, "Hey, how about getting out of the way and stop REALLY doing what the terrorists want--demoralizing the populace?"

If he believes what he wrote here, fine. But his article is just an unexpected bonus for the terrorists, adding to the mountain of cynical and depressing crap out there. And that's a victory he CAN stop, in its tracks--by not writing this junk.

his problem is that he thinks the terrorists want to take away these "freedoms," and have done so without succeeding in their plot. He doesn't see that their aim to KILL people. There is no nice way to way this. No erudite words seem to capture what he is. He is a pussy. He can't see that the jihadists actually, really, no kidding, want to kill or convert everyone. He is a pussy and a dumbass. Sorry, but no gentler words describe him (and so many others like him) better.

Amen to that.
Civil Right Number One: The right to breathe. Whatever other rights have to be curtailed to prevent our citizens from losing that one basic right is acceptable.

Draconian.

Somehow, the small inconveniences we face to make to protect ourselves against terrorism fail to match my definition of 'draconian'.

Now wearing a burqa and living under Sharia law...that's draconian.
