You are almost certainly right, but he may be trying to make a point for we in the great unwashed. Libs tend to think we all have major sex hangups and that we assume such birth control methods are never used by women other than irresponsible sluts. He may think he's enlightening us and helping fellow libs get a handle on what's "real."
