it seems to me that bringing all your tanks and troops right up to the border and letting the whole world know about it makes you a sitting duck for the Katushas...

why is Israel doing this?.....they should take a little territory to make a sufficient buffer for their own country.....Lebanese could still live there and probably would be HAPPY to live under sane conditions....

The Hezzies would come in and intimidate/kill/hold hostage anyone within range of Israel and set up launchers that would continue to fire. There is no such thing as a *sufficient buffer* when the Hezballah have long range missiles.

No one would be happy if Israel held the territory and not one of the villagers would consider that sane because they are either Muslims or terrified non-Muslims.

IMO, the lineup at the border was intimidation combined with political manuvering.

Israeli TV reports ground offensive is underway right now. On again/off again may have given the Hizballah undeserved confidence.
