U.S. air threat level raised to red

In light of British police breaking an airline bombing plot, U.S. officials Thursday raised the threat level for air transport to the highest, code red.

The Transportation Security Administration said in a statement passengers on all domestic and international flights would be banned from transporting any type of liquid or gel in their carry-on luggage. The ban applies to all types of beverages, shampoo, toothpaste, hair gels and other items of a similar consistency, the TSA announced.

Britain imposed similar bans with the exception of baby formula, which the traveler would have to prove safe by drinking some.

The move came after Scotland Yard announced the arrests of 21 people in London and Birmingham late Wednesday. They said intelligence indicated they were involved in a plot to simultaneously down as many as 10 U.S.-carrier flights from Britain to the United States using explosive liquids in carry-on baggage.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said officials had no indication that the plot included attacks inside the United States.

The U.S. Air Transport Association issued a statement asking passengers to be patient with the "temporary measures" that would result in intensified searches and considerable delays.

"...asking passengers to be patient with the "temporary measures"...

The enemy is more than patient - with that in mind I hope this is NOT a temporary measure................

I hope this incident and discovery in Britain is shoved up the @ss&^&^ of the stinking spineless liberals that have been whining about THE RIGHTS OF TERRORISTS and the phone tapping of international traffic between suspected terrorists and their supporters.

intensified searches

That would be intensified searches of little old ladies and small children, right?

The baggage inspection will involve throwing the bag 10 feet into the air to see if the nitroglycerin will explode upon impact.

~sarcasm~

I hope we have a good supply of far-left liberals to do this testing.

Nah, they just think Bush and Blair made the whole thing up to steal the thunder from Lamont's victory over Lieberman. ;)

Damn terrorists.

I understand the necessity for all of this, but it makes it so inconvenient for international travelers who have long layovers and would like to freshen up in a hotel room during those.

Now we'll have to buy toiletries on the layover stops to use and then discard.

I think I'll buy stock in Crest or Colgate or some shapmoo and conditioner manufacturer. ;-)

What may be far more ominous, is that this could have been a test run for something STILL going down on August 22. The Hezbollan and al-Qaeda are both in competition for the right to be the One True Voice of the Prophet, and these competing views have spilled over into which one could cause the most mischief to the Judeo-Christian world, while simultaneously scoring points off each other.

Trust me; I am sick and tired of everything the terrorists do.

I see and hear the results of their derangement on an almost daily basis. I despise every one of them.

Can't even bring water on the plane? Not too big of a deal for me but I don't like the idea of having to wait for the flight attendants to serve a beverage if I need to take some prescription medication, or even just tylenol or something like that.

I shudder to think what would have happened if this plot had not been thwarted. It would have been as bad as 9/11/01 again. Only this time Cindy Sheehan, Cynthia McKinney, Ned Lamont and their ilk would be screaming it was Bush's fault within 5 minutes.

Are you afraid? I mean do you actually feel more scared?.

Also, this is a question for anyone. I am just curious.

To be honest, the thought of flying for 3 or 4 hours without a book or an iPod frightens me more than the thought of the plane blowing up.

No.

But I'm probably not a good measuring stick on that.

I agree. Those are essentials for me. And my next flight will be about 16 or 17 hours. No way can I do that without my music and a good book.

I hope several things are trigerred during periods like today.
Check out in detail every ticketed passenger who fails to make his flight.
I would also photograph or video every passenger on all transatlantic flights today; either before departure or upon arrival.

This was perhaps the most important lost opportunity on 911: identifying every passenger on every airliner which was forced to land.

Enough PC. It's time to kill as many of these terrorists as we can where ever they are including the United States. If there is a cell in FLorida, eradicate it. If they are massed in Dearborn Michigan, eradicate them. Round up non-US citizen middle easterners and deport them. Ban them from flying US air carriers. Make it painful enough that these so called "moderate" muslims start taking out their own trash. If they still don't want to help, lump them in with the enemy and take the appropriate action.
