In 1824, all four presidential candidates ran as "Republicans", not "Democrats". For further information, read "Back to Basics for the Republican Party" the history of the GOP discussed at http://www.republicanbasics.com.

In 1828, the Democratic-Republican Party nominated Martin Van Buren for Vice President, but did not nominate Jackson for President, merely affirming its "satifaction" that he was running for re-election.

The Democratic-Republican Party did not change its name to the "Democratic Party" until 1940.

those who are proclaiming the death of the Democrat party are being a tad premature, sad to say.

I'm with you. This is ridiculous. I only with this were true. I could sleep much better. If this is true, why do we have to keep fighting these traitors?

Slight correction (rushing out to a party):

No party nominated Andrew Jackson for President in 1828; he just ran for President, and his followers coalesced into what would become the Democratic-Republican Party. In 1832, the Democratic-Republican Party nominated Martin Van Buren for Vice President, but did not nominate Jackson for President, merely affirming its "satifaction" that he was running for re-election.

The Democratic-Republican Party did not change its name to the "Democratic Party" until 1840.

What I can't understand,is why it's so impossible for the "PEACE NOW" retards to see that even if this country did somehow become suicidal and lay down arms against terrorists, the terrorists wouldn't lay down arms! They'd just take quick advantage of our stupidity. Both sides have to put the weapons down for a war to end. They can't be that stupid. Are they that masochistic?

This war could be won rather handily,if politics and political correctness weren't in the mix. There needs to be a supreme military leader with the reasonable power to make military decisions, with military goals in mind. Kind of like Eisenhower. The media needs to be gotten off the necks of the military-they can't do their job, which is to defeat the enemy and keep what they gain, when the media is breathing down their necks to make sure they provide Charmin instead of sandpaper to prisoners,or to make them afraid to shoot at someone reasonably assessed,in the time there is,to be an enemy.

Political correctness is killing this country-just think of the difference between the propoganda used in WWII,and what papers such as the New York Traitor print now. There were images of Hitler,Mussolini, and Tojo, not to mention their soldiers, that would get someone thrown in jail now. After we'd won that war, most Americans didn't have-for very long,anyway-any deep abiding hate for any of those peoples. In fact-Marshall Plan! It helped us,sure, but we'd have made it anyway-we didn't have to do that.

Today's versions of Tokyo Rose and Lord Haw-Haw would be interviewed, and their points of view "objectively" presented by our "impartial" media.

What happened?

How can they not admit that the security and saftey and viability of their own country and people isn't worth fighting for? That's why it's not just rhetoric, from me,when I say that for some unfathomable reason, these people HATE this country.

It may be premature to announce the death of the Dem Party in the letter, but the spirit of the Dem party as it was known has been dead a while. The rot crept in with FDR,communist infiltrators, the rot became obvious in the Sixties, and now that party is rotted. The moonbat left is now kicking the rotted pieces and not seeing them fall. they think that they're "taking over" something. But they've destroyed it. When they have it,it will be something else. My wish is that those who consider themselves "moderates" and vote Dem sometimes, could see just who and what is really deciding the "principles" of that party. They'd be shocked. Lamont is only one race, but it could be a harbinger(depending on how realistic the looney left is when he loses, and we know about THAT already.)of where the Dem party is headed-I mean one that's blatant enough for those "moderates" to see just who they've been sleeping with. People like the DUmmies may not be the majority of Dems, but they're the activists-at least, people who think like them.

I'm just curious as to where those who were "moderate" Dems will go when the rat party expires,or morphs? I want numbers for the Republican party, but we need more conservatives, not even more dilution. Maybe some of those people will be shocked enough at what they've seen that they'll change a few of their positions.

I consider myself woefully politically underinformed(though I can defend my core beliefs and why I am a conservative),and I'm even surprised at how little other grown, not unintelligent people know politically. It matters, because if they only knew anything, they'd NEVER vote Dem! And if they already vote Republican for some reason, they could never be easily swayed by spin and scare tactics,as uninformed voters can so easily be. Like the "Big Oil" lie being put out right now. I just got further informed myself somewhat about that one right here at FR. And I got enough info to check it for myself, because if someone were getting (mis)informed at the DUmmie site,I'd pray they do the same. But I'd hope that the obvious lunacy over there would've been a clear clue anyway,LOL.

Zell Miller must be sad at seeing the Rat party become the refuge of traitors and scoundrels-at least FDR would defend America, and wasn't a coward about it.

This is not the first time that the Democratic Party had the infamy of being "the refuge of traitors and scoundrels". During the Civil War, all Confederates and all of their northern collaborators (the Copperheads) were Democrats.

The Republican Party would benefit tremendously from learning its history. See http://www.republicanbasics.com for more information.

Zell Miller, though nominally a Democrat, is from the hills of northern Georgia, where people tended to be Unionist patiots during the Civil War and Republicans during Reconstruction.
