They were looking in the wrong places. They should have been questioning Gorelick and Benvenista under oath.

A major problem was WITHIN the Commission.

We should all stand back a bit and understand what went on. The amusing thing is that yes, both DOD and FAA folks did not lay out a truthful picture of what they did. There are actually statements from numerous people that contradict others. A conspiracy nut could easy look at this and say that someone is hiding huge amounts of truth or perhaps even organized the act. Of course....thats stupid. These DOD and FAA leaders on that particular day....weren't prepared for this kind of thing at all. They reacted, and in some cases too late...and in some cases...they tossed the rule book and went by judgment. And now with a panel asking questions....like every other government official out there...they have to cover their butt. So yes, these officials did lie through various parts of the commission's questioning. If you sat there and said that your department did almost nothing until hours after the attack...you look stupid and incompetent (which you might be anyway). So now, life goes on....they have their retirement...the organization is safe....the commission didn't get them fired, and things seem ok. Thats the real story to this doubt issue.
