Arab Knesset Members Ordered to Leave Government Session

Three Arab Knesset members were removed from the Knesset on Monday after heckling government leaders during a session called to discuss the war on the northern border.

Knesset member Ibrahim Sarsur called Defense Minister Amir Peretz a “war criminal” and together with two other Arab legislators, antagonized both peretz and opposition leader and Likud Chairman Binyamin Netanyahu.

Knesset Speaker Dalia Itzik ordered Knesset members Talab el-Sana of the Ra’am Ta’al party and Jamal Zahalka of Balad removed from the session, together with Sarsur for heckling Peretz and Netanyahu during their remarks on the situation in Lebanon.

I'm amused at Amir Peretz being libeled a "war criminal" by Israel's home-grown Islamofascists. And here I used to think the Labor Party Villa Pancho was just a Marxist retread with a bad Mexican moustache. Now he's leading the Labor Party back into Lebanon. Guess who organized the original demonstrations against the first Lebanon War back in the 80s? Jewish history is full of ironies like this and it always come full circle!

The reason they were removed is because they were disruptive, not because they are Arabs. If you read the article I linked to, you will see that former Israeli (non-arab) government officials are also against the incursion into Lebanon. The point is that there is disagreement within Israel about the government's course of action.

There are over 1 million Israeli arabs. No doubt these Knesset members are reflecting the views of many of their constituents by heckling the PM. Israel is a democracy and dissent is allowed.
