Need a pension? Say, `I do' (Young gals wed old guys, soak SS for a lifetime)

"Match boomers with New Dealers and the benefits flow."

CAROL HAS BEEN my political mobilizer for more than 40 years. In college, I marched on the civil rights picket lines she organized. After graduation, her peace group bused me to Washington every few years for another "Get Out of ___ " demonstration. Then she joined the staff of a global-justice organization that got me to that big WTO protest in Seattle.

But the last time I dropped in at her office, she pulled me into her cubicle and asked if I could help her..[Always a volunteer activist, now she needed a "real" job and insurance.]

"Hey, wait a minute," I said. "You don't need a fundraiser. You need a matchmaker!"

"Let's not go into my love life," Carol said.

"It's not a question of love," I explained, "it's demographics...

The first octogenarian I approached took to the idea immediately...

I hadn't thought about matchmaking for the intern on the staff. He was in his 20s and couldn't collect a pension for decades. Besides, he was a darling, and we all hoped he'd find a real sweetheart. But the 92-year-old female volunteer didn't want to be left out. She had health insurance that covered a spouse.

"The poor kid coughs all winter," she pointed out. "Let him get a good checkup for once. Then he could divorce me. I won't contest it."

So we held a triple wedding at City Hall. Afterward, everyone shook hands, and six securely pensioned, insured individuals went home their separate ways.

My scheme can work for any small group. ...

I once read in the mid 1980's that from May/December marriages that at teh time the VA was still paying pensions and benefits on about 90 to 100 Civil War (War of Northern Agression) veterans widows.

I guess posting a little something about personal ethics and morals would be out of bounds here....

Why is it that political "lefties" always use someone else's money to advance their various "causes", be via a million different government jobs, private foundations corrupted into political vehicles, or now in this new twist, the aged.

The answer is that the leftist use people and abuse people. Absent any firm ethical mooring, they'll do anything to anybody to advance their cause, because, well, their cause is just. They are the ultimate narcissists.

I was about to post a long angry reply, but then something caught my attention.

BARBARA GARSON is the author of...a new comedy about pensions, "Security."

Perhaps this a joke, or a satire of some sort. I was initially amazed at how stupid people can be, until I realized that it's SO stupid it might be satire.

If it's not, then God help us all.

An old game. South Carolina's last pensioned War Between The States widow died in the 1990's. In the early 1920's as a girl of nineteen she married a Confederate veteran well into his eighties, solely for financial security. In her later years she was cherished as a living link to the War.

But an old (socialist) woman marrying a lad of 20? It's clearly her attempt to literally hand on her socialist safety net. A left-wing inheritance. Geez.....

Up until a few years ago, each representative in the Italian Parliament was allowed to appoint an employee who would receive a salary for writing out veterans' benefits checks by hand to each veteran of the War of Reunification in that representative's district.

The war ended in 1870 and the last check was paid over 50 years ago.

Nice little jobs program.

You're not kidding. The example of the 60's dropouts who had not earned enough to draw Social Security was unbelievable. 10 years to get vested for Social Security/Medicare is a ridiculously low requirement and any minimum wage job will earn enough to qualify (I was vested by the age of 27). These people have sponged off of others for their ENTIRE lives and are now looking for ways to scam their way through the rest of it. Just damn.

Doesn't work that way!!

Social Security survivors benefits can be paid to:
- A widow or widower -- full benefits at full retirement age, or reduced benefits as early as age 60
- A disabled widow or widower -- as early as age 50
- A widow or widower at any age if he or she takes care of the deceased's child who is under age 16 or disabled, and receiving Social Security benefits

The pension and health benefits are the reason I married an older woman. I don"t see what’s wrong with it.

Maaaaaan oh man something like that could turn out to be spooky. I can just hear the conversation....

"Ms. Weatherby, um....I don't think this is fair...."

"Oh, now come come sonny boy, don't you disappoint an old lady. Why then I'd have to just write you off of my benefits and then where would you be you little darling? What is it you have again?"

"Osteosarcoma."

"Well there you go. Now you want your trip to the lovely little doctor you better give old Betty Weatherby some sugar. Now you want me to take my teeth out like last time or would you rather I left them in?"

"siiiiiiiiighhhhhhTake them out, I guess."

Gee, I thought Congress fixed this problem in the mid-1980s, but I guess they fixed it the way they fixed the illegal immigration problem.

Oh, what they did was to fix the problem for federal employees by making the amount a spouse gets depend upon the spouse's age. But they didn't do it for the social fraudsters.

If the SSA went after a couple of these Senior Citizens and reneged on their pensions due to fraud, this would end right quick.
