O'Reilly Newspaper Theory, Strike Two: Globe Also Calls for Immediate Cease-Fire

Bill O'Reilly's down to his last strike. As noted here, on his radio and TV shows yesterday, Bill propounded the theory that the big-city newspapers have tread lightly in the current Middle East conflict for fear of alienating their liberal Jewish readers. As Bill put it, liberal Jews "are all the papers have left" when it comes to significant market niches.

While Bill singled out the NY Times as the paper most loath to offend its liberal Jewish readers, he also mentioned the Boston Globe by name on his radio show. As discussed here, the NY Times came out this morning guns ablazin', so to speak, for an immediate cease-fire.

Turns out the Boston Globe has done the same thing. Excerpts from its editorial of today, While Lebanon Burns:

* "After meeting yesterday in Beirut with Lebanon's prime minister and speaker of Parliament, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said the United States is ``deeply concerned about the Lebanese people and what they are enduring." Not only does this profession of concern come exceedingly late, it may be perceived as a hypocritical contradiction of US policy."

* "Until now Rice has said the Bush administration wants to wait a while longer before intervening diplomatically to obtain a cease-fire. Even disregarding the callousness of this stance, Lebanese civilians and their sympathizers in the Arab world do not see how the displacing of 700,000 civilians and the shattering of a modern, cosmopolitan country can lead to Lebanon's delicately balanced government disarming the Shi'ite militia Hezbollah."

* "Many Lebanese who want Hezbollah to disarm, and resent Hezbollah's patrons in Iran and Syria, cannot understand why they are being attacked by Israel's army, and with weapons made in the United States."

* "By deliberately delaying diplomatic efforts to reach a cease-fire, however, Bush seems to be helping to tear down the independent Lebanese democracy he had taken credit for constructing."

* "Rice should call for an immediate cease-fire while she hammers out agreements on the countries that will supply troops, the mandate they must have to enforce peace, and the schedule for disarming Hezbollah in accordance with UN resolution 1559."

Conclusion: any concerns the big-city papers might have about offending liberal Jewish readers are trumped by their overriding inclination to bash the Bush administration at every opportunity. Back to the drawing Board, Bill!

I don't believe that Bill actually said what the article accuses. He may have been joking around; he can't be so stupid as to think that Jews of any stripe constitute a majority of their readership or even double digits, percentage-wise.

"Rice should call for an immediate cease-fire while she hammers out agreements on the countries that will supply troops, . . ."

Or as Tony Snow has pointed out, this strategy has really worked wonders in the past.

Not sure but I believe there are more jews in NYC then in the entire country of Israel.

However calling for a cease-fire now means Israel loses, nothing will change and we will be doing it again in a few years so, there is no value in a cease-fire.

Do liberal Jewish Americans back Israel's invasion of southern Lebanon?

I have come to believe that liberal Jews support the terrorist, since they are supporters of the Democrats who support the terrorist.

As the author of the original article, I can absolutely assure you he said it. He discussed it at some length during his opening monologue of his radio show yesterday, then discussed it again during his TV show last night. Here's an excerpt from his TV show. Chatting with Brent Bozell of the Media Research Center, Bill said the following:

"The New York Times is sitting this out, absolutely sitting it out editorially. I believe it's because they don't want to alienate their liberal Jewish base here in New York City."

Again, he propounded the theory at much greater length earlier in the day on his radio show, mentioning the Globe, WaPo and LA Times as well.

Boston Globe reader and terrorist Hassan Nasrallah:
"I said that we would abduct Israeli soldiers,
in meetings with some of the main political leaders in the country (Lebanon).
I don't want to mention names now, but when the time comes to settle accounts, I will."

CONSIDER THE SOURCE

THE BOSTON GLOBE ALWAYS LIES and SUPPORTS TERRORISTS

1. Boston Globe Publishes Fake Iraq Rape Pictures to have Americas Murdered (Again) - Thread 1

2. Boston Globe Publishes Fake Iraq Rape Pictures to have Americas Murdered (Again) - Thread 2

From The Boston Globe's (and New York Times') own wars against the War for Enduring Freedom.

3. Turkish bombings, including that of the HSBC bank murdering a dozen people and wounding scores,
directly resulted from smears in the Boston Globe used to demean America and incite terrorists.
The Boston Globe front page article claimed the American liberation of Iraq from the murderous Saddam was a "rape".

Is it a coincidence that both papers did the same thing within hours or each other?

BOR "forced" them to take a position, IMO.

And many a hitter has gone deep with two stirkes on them. Just look at you!! ;^)

"Bill propounded the theory that the big-city newspapers have tread lightly in the current Middle East conflict for fear of alienating their liberal Jewish readers."

Sounds like these big-city papers showed some restraint during the first two weeks of conflict, but now the editors have a serious case of ants-in-the-pants and just can't sit still any longer.

In addition, with elections around the corner, John Kerry will be making rounds on the Sunday talk shows proudly proclaiming, "If I was President, none of this would have happened." And the papers have to be on the side of Kerry (which is to side with Hezbollah), supporting him and his ilk, in hopes of capturing control of the House or Senate (which seems like a very long shot, at this point in time, thankfully).

Well, since BOR made the NY Times the centerpiece of his theory, I would say the infield fly rule has been invoked and he is automatically out! No third strike for you - Bill!

2 points

1. MSM newspapers and their writers don't give a crap what their readers really think.

2. The only way Hezbollah is going to disarm is at the point of a gun and if their sources for funding and armaments are cut off. A cease fire is a bandaid kick the can solution down the road. Israel is rightly going to do significant damage to Hezbollah as no one else will.

No, Jews do not constitue a majority of supporters of the NY Times, etc., but as a group they have a large number that does follow amd support the NY Times. American Jews are basilcally lost, adrift at sea, supporting a political party (Democrat) and the MSM that has so long ago abandoned their priorities. They are like the European Jews that during the 1920s-30s believed that Hitler was just a passing fancy. They paid a heavy price then, and they are about to pay a heavy price now. Only, this time all the world's Jews will be slaughtered and become as extinct as some animal species. This is not uncommon. This mistaken "loyalty" has ocurred throughout history many times. It is the human desire to fail to admit they have been supporting groups that did operate in their best interests. American Jews are in denial, and will not change, even when the sharp blade of Muslim terrorists, slits the throat of their children and families. Go figure!!! If we to look American Jews to fight the war on terror, we are sadly mistaken. That can only be found in the Israel (IDF/IAF) of Abraham, Joshua, Gideon, Moses, etc., not in the weak sisters known as American Jews who hate both Israel and the United States!!! Sad commentary on a people that have lost their moral direction!!!

Bill O'Reilly is in the right ballpark with his opinion of the Liberal Jewish readers of these papers. What I think is much more to the point is that the NYT doesn't wish to offend it's Liberal Jewish base, but they absolutely cannot afford to offend it's Jewish advertisers.

Pinch couldn't put out that rag if he didn't have advertising revenue. The Liberal Jews in NYC put Bloomberg in office, they elected Hillary Clinton to the Senate, and they pretty much are wrong on every single thing that they do. But they also have families, they also remember the stories of pogroms and the Holocaust, even if they don't do it consciously. Just look at the number of American Jews who are involved in "social causes" such as the ACLU or the big tent of anti-war organizations. From Bella Abzug to Abby Hoffman back when to Mort Zuckerman or Chuck Schumer today.
At best, they are misguided. At worst, they are malignant.

The owners of major businesses who advertise in the Liberal papers, even if they are the sort of misguided Liberal Jewish Democrats that I think of as the A&E Jews, are not going to stand for some editorial board slamming Israel.
Joe Lieberman is a good example, even though he is not a direct advertiser. I believe that it was his mother or mother-in-law who survived the Nazi death camps. The Bronfmans are Seagrams (or were, not sure) and the owners of the renowned Saks stores are American Jews. They won't give money to anyone who slams their forebearers. The NYT might think they are courageous and noble, but threatened with the loss of the big bucks, they are revealed as scared mice doing nothing in hopes of getting those crumbs. They were free to slam BOR because he is of Irish Catholic descent. I'd love to hear them do the same to Chuckie Schumer and get away with it.
Not going to happen.

"Many Lebanese ... cannot understand why they are being attacked by Israel's army"

Well... let's start with the fact that YOU attacked Israel and kidnapped two soldiers... How about that?

What you say? that was Hezbollah and not Lebanon? Well, aren't the Hez a part of your government? What? Yes, but you didn't know that they had 12,000 rockets in your country? Shocked are you? ... What? Yes, but you didn't know they had built six years worth of tunnels and concrete bunkers in southern Lebanon?... Shocked again?

Dang. You haven't been paying much attention to your country have you?

Lebanon reminds me of Captain Louis Renault in Casablanca "I am shocked that there is Hezbollah with arms in this country!"
