I think they missed the point...

No, we didn't.

The Marriott may be mormon owned and may be subject to influence by its owners, but I can't ever recall them using their religion as a basis from which to advertise their business.

Business is business and if the owners see that their revenue stream goes up by XXX% then that's their business. How the church deals with them is none of my concern.

That's what I meant about trying to hijack the thread, it was about porn and smoking, not religion.

Besides, I called it an "attempt" to hijack the thread, I didn't say you actually succeeded.;-)

And all I said is peddling porn violates their squeaky clean
image, which it does.

"What with all the hate thrown at smokers today, would YOU smoke in public if YOU were First Lady? I think not."

I used to smoke in public all the time. I didn't care what anybody else thought about it.

"If you could afford to upgrade, your right hand would get a rest."

Sorry, I'm left-handed.

But still, when this hotel chain disses 25-30% of their customer base just because they smoke, they will notice a difference in their revenue.

From the Marriott article: "Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE: MAR) announced today that all of the Company’s lodging brands in the United States and Canada will become 100 percent smoke-free, beginning in September. "

I had to make a reservation last week for a 4-day business trip and call Fairfield Inns and requested a smoking room. The guy told me that none of their facilities allowed smoking (in JULY) and I said "no, I'm not interested then" and hung up.

I have not checked into a hotel room in the last ten years that did not have porn titles. ...and that's a lot of hotels, I can assure you.

I've stayed in lots of hotel rooms in the last ten years and never knew I could get porn. Never knew I could block it either. Unless HBO is considered porn, and it certainly should be.

>>In-room pay-per-view porn represents a public nuisance, just like a pool without a fence around it.<<

I suspect there are locks on the doors and codes required to order the porn.
