At a moment when his conservative coalition is already under strain over domestic policy, President Bush is facing a new and swiftly building backlash on the right over his handling of foreign affairs.

Conservative intellectuals and commentators who once lauded Bush for what they saw as a willingness to aggressively confront threats and advance U.S. interests said in interviews that they perceive timidity and confusion about long-standing problems including Iran and North Korea, as well as urgent new ones such as the latest crisis between Israel and Hezbollah.

He is about to throw them a bone and veto the bill coming out of Congress on stem cell research.

Perhaps that was bad verbage on my part. Regardless of what our position is in the legislative branch it does not excuse Bush's actions of late.

Backlash? The only so called Conservatives lining up against Israel are the Ambassador Joseph Kennedy fools who love Islamists as much as he liked the Nazis and Hitler.

There is a timetable as well as an exploitation for everything.

For example: When President Bush moved against Afghanistan, the MSM started sounding the alarm that he was going to move against Iraq next. However the Bush Administration repeatedly denied it. Then all of a sudden in the summer of 2002 President Bush was suddenly gunning for Hussein.

In the case of North Korea, guess what... they already have nukes(Thanks Clinton!). So the situation must be exploited by using this to arm Japan (and possibly South Korea) with nukes so we can better stare down China in the future.

Iran is different though, that will go down soon. We are currently evacuating Americans from Lebanon and taking care of loose ends while we give the appearance that we are trying diplomacy. That is the same way President Bush was able to build the large Coalition Of The Willing to move against Saddam Hussein.

Once certain pieces fall into place(like getting our people out and building alliances for the action), and we reach the proper number of weeks until the November elections so the shooting war is in a forward motion with no likeliness of hitting a snag just as people are going to the voting booths, then we will blow the crap out of the Iranian fanatical beasts.

Do you think people will even remember that they were ankle biting President Bush once that happens? I guarantee you they will not.

I do agree with this statement. We seem to be following the 1994 N. Korean give away model with Iran that is a failed policy. You can't trust liars, and N. Korea and Iran are two of the worst.

Not every Conservative will be lockstep with the President on foreign policy but there certainly is not a backlash considering he's the only one that has had the guts to do ANYTHING about the middle-east absent appeasement.

The MSM needs to get back to the "news" business and out of the tabloid business. The MSM wants to blame Bush every way he turns and that being the case I'm not sure why he's not being more aggressive toward Iran and NK but I will give him the benefit of the doubt for now that he's doing the right things on foreign policy.

If Bush leaves Israel alone to do its job with no interference, and leaves North Korea to agree to the six-party talks, Bush is timid! Chicken!

But if Bush stepped into the Israeli affair, bombed Syria and Iran, and made noises about attacking North Korea, he would be dangerous! Cowboy! Warmonger!

Bush and conservatives cannot win with the MSM. I am glad that Bush says he doesn't govern by polls, he does what he thinks is right. F the MSM.

Yes, there has been some "discontent" over a few things lately in re: to North Korea and Iran. Less talk, less incentives, more action is the preference.

However, a little discontent does NOT equal "backlash". Backlash there has not been, except maybe in these clique elite intellectual circles...many of whom were trying to shove amnesty down the peoples throat and telling the world we really loved it.

WAPO has taken editorial license here in their hopes to cause a conservative revolt. What they don't get, and the insulting posters even on this board that insinuated we were being led by the nose by the MSM, is that THEY do not determine when we rise up and protest this administration. The elites do not determine when the conservative grassroots feel change must come. Nor does the mainstream media.

Conservatives had a backlash against Miers, amnesty, in smaller form to spending during katrina, to Dubai even though I did NOT agree with that one....no such backlash is coming here. And without the grassroots joining the elites case, their "backlash" hopes are going to fizzle. Oh, btw, loved the insinuation that talk radio would be used to whip us into a fury...LOL

Right now I'm enjoying the refreshing straightforward approach to the terrorists targeting Israel, as most of America is I would think. Good luck trying to create a backlash during this period. LOL I'd say most conservatives, minus elites, are pretty happy right now on foreign policy everytime they see the Israeli's release more fire. :-)
