" but once you buy 98 of them, then you know that something is very wrong."
Just WHERE do you draw the line, oh mighty discerning one?
Or ever know any cops? Every one I've have ever known had guns hid in every roon and their kids knew better than to touch them.
Lucky you. Some dads would have removed a portion of your hide. LOL
At 11 years old not only was I around "unsecured and loaded" firearms, I was charged with cleaning and checking to see they were ready to fire. My grandpa always kept loaded weapons in the home for emergencies. And so did my father.
I also knew how to shoot a weapon and where to aim to stop an intruder at that age.
Say, I have a bridge for sale for only $200. I bought it when I was in the 8th grade, wanna buy it??
While citizens have the right the own weaponry, is 98 guns necessary? (rhetorical question).
if the guns were part of a collection, most of them should have been locked up (some could be around for defense, but not all 98).
IMO the parents share MOST of the responsibility. In this case, a father and a grandmother. Eleven-year-olds are children. If any of them (and that's a big IF) should have access to loaded weapons, they are a rare few.
So your saying, that if a person collects, lets say TV's, that most should be locked up, some could be around for watching, but not all 98.
I'd guess your "advice" is tongue-in-cheek or, maybe, half-fun, whole earnest.
FR gives conservative-minded folks an opportunity to interact on any subject that interests them. The downside is that some Freepers, by no means all, come off as possessive, as in, "This is OUR domain and we don't like newbies."
To which I say, "Get off your silly high horse. You don't own the site...you just post here like everyone else."
Insecurity problem? Sure looks like it.
Gee. Never
Thought so based on your post.
I don't know where you're inventing the three years and up argument. The boy was eleven years old.
The authorities also claimed the firearms were "nearly all unsecured" and noted that five firearms were loaded in the father's bedroom. Not all ninety eight were unsecured or loaded.
I also don't buy the idea it was an accident. This was not a semiautomatic that was used. Revolvers don't "hide" the fact they're loaded. It wouldn't be the first time a kid suddenly decided to kill a playmate.
If every single gun in that household was unloaded and locked up except for a single revolver, we would still be reading about how this eleven year old killed a playmate.
You seem more concerned that the father had 98 firearms than that the boy killed his friend.
If the boy had used a hammer instead of a gun, would that have been better? More interestingly - would have you commented on it?
You need to change your screen name to "Un-Americanstrategist".
Thousands of folks have gun collections, including myself. I have far more than 98 rifles of the WWI era alone. The problem isn't with the collection of guns but rather the lack of responsible behavior of the father.
"People who are of good moral character have the right to own a weapon, but once you buy 98 of them, then you know that something is very wrong."

Your "inclination" is a liberal one. You have one of those "Million-Mom-March" bumper stickers on your mini-van?

My thoughts exactly. I have more guns than I need, but not as many as I want. Same with guitars.

I'd have to see the bridge.
Not sure I get the point though. I bought a banjo when I was in the 8th grade which turned out to be a fine investment.
