The Tribune Co., parent of the "Orlando Sentinel," has reported a 62 percent drop in net income to $87.8 million, or 28 cents a share, from $233.4 million, or 73 cents a share, a year earlier.
Chicago-based Tribune (NYSE: TRB - News) also pointed to cutbacks from national advertisers and falling circulation ...

The Tribune Co. is also the parent of the despicable LA Times. Wonderful news.
PING!
"cutbacks from national advertisers and falling circulation ..."
Will they every figure it out ?
Music to my ears.
Here's an oddity. From the article:
"Operating revenue, meanwhile, fell 1 percent to $1.43 billion from $1.45 billion. "
You'd think revenue from operations would include circulation and advertising revenues. If it doesn't, a billion and a half dollars from non-newspaper functions is staggering. And whatever impacted that number to cut profits in half would seem nuclear.
If operating revenues does include circulation and advertising, then the reasons given for the decline aren't.
I still see tools in the supermarkets handing out the paper for free....and no one will take them!
*snicker snort waha
No, and that's a good thing.

Analysts say the results could put more pressure on the company to take stronger steps to restructure, with the disappointing results increasing pressure from Its top shareholder, the Chandler Trusts, which has urged the company to spin off its broadcast division or find a buyer.

It just shows to go ya, for every action there is a consequence. It is high time these propaganda spewers realized they are their own worst enemy. Now are there any true journalists out there ready to take over?
Well, in light of that, per my post #6, the broadcast division would appear to be the gorilla bringing in operating revenue hand over banana while the news biz is devolving. Better to spin off the fish-wrappers, at this point.
"Will they every figure it out ?"
Hopefully not.
We want them to keep right on doing what they have been doing. :)
Right on. This is wonderfull news.
"cutbacks from national advertisers and falling circulation ..."
Will they every figure it out ?
No
They have two major problems:
1. As per Einstein's definition of insanity: "They keep doing the same thing, lying to their customers and advertisers and expecting different results!"
2. As elite Lunatic Liberals, they are the poster boys and girls for "Arrogance".
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, I'm doing my happy dance. May their children starve and their wives go barefoot.
Grandpa Dave, the Tribune Co has THREE problems, and the one you left out is THE BIGGEST ONE !!!!
#3 They own the Chicago Cubs MLB team !!!
Now, die hard Cub fans like my wife and her family would disagree with you. ":)
LOL.
"Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, I'm doing my happy dance. May their children starve and their wives go barefoot."
If the MSM were so main stream ...why are they losing so many readers and viewers ?
The old, left wing media wish they were mainstream, they are not.
And this also drives them crazy.
