MELBOURNE, Australia (UPI) -- Australian health administrators are considering preparing organ donors for transplants while they are still alive, it was reported Sunday.
The Sunday Age said the Australian Health Ethics Committee is seeking to extend transplant preparations to living patients who are certain to die when the heart and circulation stop. Currently, only brain-dead patients are prepared for organ transplants.
New procedures would involve inserting tubes into major arteries to prepare for cleansing of organs after death, blood tests and administering drugs to better preserve organs.
AECH spokesman Peter Joseph said extending the procedures to living patients was necessary to preserve solid organs such as hearts, livers, lungs and kidneys that deteriorated quickly after loss of circulation. He said it was possible someone could be aware they were being prepared for harvesting, but this would not be done without the permission of the donor or the family.

When I think about things like this, I have to put them in a personally meaningful context: I couldn't abort a child of my own, and I couldn't permit this for a relative of mine (although I applaud organ donation). This, "preparing organ donors for transplants while they are still alive," is an abomination. Thank you and goodnight.
The doc here says some patients may even realize they are being prepared for "harvesting!" Now, howzaboutthat?

Yeah, like that guy out west a few years ago. His death certificate ended up reading a cause of death as being that his vital organs were removed before he was dead.
That is why I will not get the ORGAN DONOR sticker for my license. My family knows what to do if I die, I don't need to advertise that I am an organ farm "so don't work to hard to save me."
if even one person is aware, that is one too much, pretty soon the definition of organ donor will be someone no longer "useful" to society or when someones worth more to "society" as a bucket of parts, than as a live being.
