Debbie is HOT
Say it ain't so!!
Well, yeah, the Good Samaritan helped illegal aliens, and Mary and Joseph were illegal aliens and they were obviously helped when they were allowed to stay in the manger.
This is according to the noted conservative, Catholic thoelogian...
Hillary Rodham Clinton.
But...but...without illegal immigrants I won't be able to place a phone order
for pizza with a guy who barely speaks English!
(But hey, that was with Papa Johns in West Los Angeles)
Issues like this are a bonus for FReepers. They get to spew vitriol on both of their favorite targets! Messcans and Catlicks.
Ah, yeah, one of the reasons I left the Catholic church is its strange concentration on tangential or even dystopic "social justice" and unwillingness to, in the words of one former pastor of mine, "waste time on a lot of Jesus talk."
It was "Liberation Theology" that put me over the edge -- "Jesus was the first communist!" and a diocese that heavily funded the communist-first, catholic-slightly "Catholic Worker" organisation.
When Catholics or Christians in general try to make their religion overtly political, the effect is often damaging politically and undermines the faith. Anyone heard of "Father Coughlin?" How about Father/Congressman Drinan? Daniel and Philip Berrigan? All of them thoroughly evil men hiding in cassocks.
Here in Mass. they have shuttered churches and sold the buildings as a result of costs inevitably incurred by the archdiocese's long toleration and cover-up of a ring of predatory gay priests.
One of whom was celebrated for decades in the Boston Globe as an example of the kind of enlightened new cleric who didn't waste time on "Jesus stuff." Instead, Father Paul Shanley concentrated on ministering to gay and "questioning" youth. What a guy (if you liked Coughlin and Drinan, ya gotta love Shanley).
When Jesus asked whose face was on a denarius, it was a rhetorical question; He knew. Some of His followers have gotten hazy on the subject.
The Catholic Church in the nation and the world has the potential to be a great force for good. But it needs to decide whether it wants to save souls or play politics. (The same can be said for many protestant churches, on both sides of politics).
Whose face is on that denarius? There can be only one right answer.

As to how a religion interfaces to the woes of the secular world ... I think that Ave Maria is catering to the human being.
