Apparently the terrorist haven’t seen Al Gore's movie An Inconvenient Truth. Because according to Gore, Manhattan would very soon be under water anyway because of global warming.

Exactly. That's the sad, sorry truth.

Wait til Sunday, the Slimes will print all the details on how they caught the guy in Lebanon. Secret arrangements with Syria, names and codenames of undercover operatives and the technical means for intercepting terrorist communications.

Eventually, the terrorists will hit the US again and the Slimes will blame President Bush.

The Holland Tunnel was high on Omar Abdul Rahman's (the Blind Sheik) target list. And now we have Zarqawi linked in this plot. These terrorists are all in bed together. The libs, of course, are still waiting for that "direct" link.

Hi, Red. I know a lot of people like that in the northeast. Sadly, my stepbrother is one of them. I guess it never occurred to them that the president has kept the country safe for 5 years since 9/11; not that he'll get credit for that.

Kudos to the Feds who work in the shadows to keep America safe. Just because these bozos didn't ace physics class, doesn't mean they can't get lucky once. Too many fellow NYers have succumbed to the intoxicating nepenthe of Sep 10.

The bridges and tunnels are a big and obvious target for terrorists, and I think they're probably on a lot of "lists." John Updike's latest book, The Terrorist, focuses on a young American Muslim convert who gets involved in such a plot.

I was born in NYS and have lived here most of my life. I get snarky when people don't differentiate between NYS and NYC. ;) However, my son recently moved down to Long Island to work there and I have a sister-in-law from L.I. who is as conservative as I am, so I do try to cut those from NYC some slack - especially if they are members of FR. They wouldn't be here if they were libs.

I'm not sure which is funnier.

1. They thought blowing up a tunnel would flood Manhattan.

2. They actually got a pledge of financial assistance to do #1.

3. The thought an Internet chat room was a secure environment to discuss their plot. "It is safe Mustaffa, I am logged in anonymously.".

It was. Updike is a wonderful writer, although I think he went a little over the top on some of his characters in this one and I don't think he got the tone entirely right. But it was a good read, on the whole, and I think his picture of the young convert was good and probably pretty accurate in the case of a lot of these Johnny Taliban type guys.

The young man was somebody looking for stability and authority and a way out of a world that he couldn't deal with, and fell in with a group who would tell him what to do in every aspect of his life, and had their own special language and gestures, all-controlling authority figures, etc. Just like any cult, in other words. If you think of Islam as a cult and its members as cult followers, with a cult member's mentality, it is easier to understand why they act as they do.

They even considered hitting the U.N. building.

Who says I can not restrain myself?

But if you look at a map, the Financial District is at the bottom of Manhattan, so if you got a good woosh of water going, naturally, the bottom of the island would flood. This is not rocket surgery!

Hi DITHOT-

Your speedy solution to terrorist Muslim scumbags is equally fine. My feeling is we as Americans shouldn't get too frightened with the imagery of "collapsing tunnels and cascading water" because it just won't happen. Terrorists plotting such events should be tirelessly pursued whether it's a half-baked plan or not.

Cheers,

How close did they come when the WTC towers fell?

IIRC there were cracks in the seawall. If that had given way the train tunnels would have been flooded at the very least.

Hi Pinz-

More water rushes through Lower Manhattan due to a sudden rainstorm than would be caused by a leaky tunnel. In a worst-case scenario it would be depend on the rising and falling tide and would still only amount to a few inches in the streets.

My only point is that Americans outside NY should no more think that the Times represents what real NYers think

NYers outed themselves as the knuckleheads they are when they elected Hillary. Same as the idiots in MASS.
