"The PRD is not trying to annul the election": PRD Official Manuel Camacho Solis (Translation)

The AMLO campaign insider emphasizes that they are trying to count vote by vote to recover the legitimacy of last Sunday's electoral process

The For the Good of All coalition is not trying to annul the presidential election, but only to count the votes and recover the legitimacy of last Sunday's electoral process, militant PRD member Manuel Camacho Solis indicated [today].

While presenting a brief talk in a "2006: Year of Elections, Year of Reflections" seminar at the College of Mexico, the field team member of presidential candidate Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador maintained that their party has decided not to recognize the results of those elections.

He considered that there were irregularities during the electoral process and the counting of the vote.

For that reason the For the Good of All coalition, Solis said, has summoned [its supporters] "to serenity, to maintain civility," as well as to a peaceful movement that will have the one of its central moments next Saturday in the Zócalo capital plaza.

He asserted that coalition members "will not defraud the people" who trusted their vote to them, which is the reason why their behavior will be prudent and according to the law.

On the 6th of September1, Solis emphasized, [everyone] will reflect upon what happened in the election and he reiterated the decision of Lopez Obrador to go to the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Power of the Federation to oppose the result of the elections.

-----------------------------------------

Translator's Note:

1September 6 is the deadline under Mexican law for the election to be concluded and a new President to be named as winner of the election.

Well, this is an interesting piece of news. The PRD will have to destroy the Mexican electoral process in order to save it.

This does not bode well. The Zócalo capital plaza in Mexico City is just the place in which a demonstration that gets out of hand could have devastating consequences for the future of a transitional government to Calderón's presidency. Even though you can see Solis discussing "serenity," "civility," and a "peaceful movement," the clear intent here is to intimidate the government through the use of their broad base of support in Mexico City. This is dangerous news in my opinion.

California Patriot, I believe you were the one most worried about seeing things come apart in Mexico if the election was too close. This could be another early sign that it might. I thought I should ping you here.

I really don't know which party to root for, as both are based on the concept of hooking into the American financial teat.

"I really don't know which party to root for . . ."

This is a photo of a demonstration of Lopez Obrador's supporters yesterday in front of the Federal Electoral Institute in Mexico City.

Does that help?

The mere fact that Obrador is calling for street protests is testament to his not being fit to be president.

I really don't think you want to see a friend of Chavez running a neighboring country into the ground with his socialist policies. That's the worst case scenario if Obrador wins the election through mob rule. The current flood over the border could turn into a deluge.

The bigger, more immediate risk is instability if Obrador sends angry mobs onto the streets of Mexico City.

Thanks a lot.

Is it true the Zappatista loonies support Obragore? Ive been hearing conflict reports. It would be yet another reason to hope this loser never becomes el presidente.

The Zócalo capital plaza in Mexico City is just the place

I was there before during and after a FDN rally. Peones had been bussed in to the DF and went shopping. The Army made its disciplined presence known. And uno, dos, tres, all night long testing the P A system is not hypnotic.

Thanks. This is worrisome, but it's good that Calderon won by more than a couple hundred or a couple thousand. The best possible outcome is that his party and all other reasonable Mexicans see these leftist would-be dictators for what they are. As in the U.S., they might overplay their hand.

How did the Mexican citizens in the U.S. (illegally or legally) tend to vote?

This is the second photo of a demonstration from Obrador's supporters that I've seen, and I've yet to see a Mexican flag.
