A Wake up Call, indeed

A letter to the Editor;
Question of the day for Luke Air Force Base: Whom do we thank for the morning air show?
Last Wednesday, at precisely 9:11 a.m., a tight formation of four F-16 jets made a low pass over Arrowhead Mall, continuing west over Bell Road at approximately 500 feet. Imagine our good fortune!
Do the Tom Cruise-wannabes feel we need this wake-up call, or were they trying to impress the cashiers at Mervyns' early-bird special?
Any response would be appreciated.
Tom MacRae, Peoria3

This is one of those items for which any additional commentary would only serve as a distracting embellishment.

The text in the article is referring to June/July of 2005.

The jets in the Snopes picture sure don't look like F-16s.

MacRae is a whiner. Our fliers are testing our planes 24 hours a day. If it bothers him, that's tough S. I would consider their flights as music to my ears--beats anytime having foreign bombers flying over our houses.

The 56th Fighter Wing will call for you, and forward your thanks to the widow and parents of Capt. Fresques, and thank them for you, for it was in their honor that my pilots flew the most honorable formation of their lives.
I love it!
I've unfortunately attended a few of these ceremonies. The formation is phenomenal, especially to those who understand it's significants.
Cordially,
GE

OLD NEWS HERE - please pull the post.
To: Former MSM Viewer
Anybody know what kind of planes are shown in the Snopes photo? They're delta winged, not F 16's. I thought they might be old B 58 Hustlers, but don't think so. Maybe European?
Just curious.

Its obvious that there are a lot of us that have never seen this story.
It is such an inspiring piece that it wont hurt any of those who have seen it before to see it again...

Looks to me like either a F102 or an F106.

They are definitely not B-58s. The 58 has two engines on each wing. These look like the J-35 Grippen from sweeden to me.
To: garyhope
Let correct that. The J-35 is the Draken, not the Grippen,
To: garyhope
Correction. The previous poster is correct. These are F-106s. I'm almost 99% certain.

I have a rule: never call anyone before nine a.m. or after nine p.m. Looks like the pilots have the same rule.
The whiner here needs to get out of bed and seize the day...

Thanks for the link.
It has been a while, but I've actually seen these in flight out of Panama City, FL. Several were used as radio controlled drones and others were flown by the Guard.

The four jets in the picture at Snopes are not F16s. Look like mirage or maybe Euroweeniefighters...
