MARSEILLES, France, June 28, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) A documentary promoting euthanasia received the 5th European Broadcasting Union Golden Link Award, at the documentary film festival the Sunny Side of the Doc, in Marseilles last week.
EXIT, le droit de mourir (the right to die) was produced using public funds by an association of five European Public Broadcasters. The documentary promotes Switzerlands liberal approach to assisted suicide, where organizations have set up clinics offering assisted suicide services, for a fee, to both Swiss residents and foreigners.
The film purports to show how volunteers accompany sick and handicapped people towards a death of their choice that seems more dignified to them, said EBU News, adding that the film asks the quintessential, intimate question of whether choosing the means of death is the ultimate freedom.
The reality, said Alex Schadenberg, executive director of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, is that euthanasia represents the ultimate abandonment of individuals who are in need of excellent care to live, not death.
Schadenberg issued a statement against the film, saying, The cause celeb of euthanasia is, once again, being promoted through the reception of awards for propaganda films that in this case was produced by public money. The euthanasia movement realizes that culture and public opinion are changed by emotionally charged dramatic films championing their cause.
Euthanasia is clearly about a eugenic attitude toward the lives of people with disabilities. 'Exit' is really not concerned with whether or not someone is receiving the necessary supports for life, or care for their emotional and psychological needs. They essentially care about causing death and promoting reasons to die.

These "life" people are stuck in the middle ages.......if I had a deadly illness or injury, I'd sure want to have the right to end my existence.
It's the ultimate self-delusion to believe suicide is the ultimate exercise of freedom. It's not a choice but a denial, elimintating all other possibilities. It immediately removes all opportunity for further spiritual life or growth of the ill person and to a degree all those involved in the murder/suicide.
If the Culture of Death gains strength, they will start using the word "choice" less and less, their rhetoric will be more along the line of Marx's "Nothing can have value without being an object of utility."
And if you had a deadly illness, you'd die without the unnecessary assertion of some bogus "right."
That's what "deadly" means.
The whole point of the "Right" to Die movement (which is, after all, something like the "Right to Gravity") is not really to accommodate people strong enough to insist on such a right. Don't be naive. The point is to obtain prompt and convenient death for people who can't or won't assert it.
It's happening in the Netherlands as we speak: parents "exercising" the right to die "on the behalf of" their handicapped newborns; doctors offing people who have lost the power of speech "because they would have wanted to go."
Hey, why wait? The time is NOW!!!
(This commercial message brought to you by Euthanasia Advocates of FreeRepublic, AKA the "Kill Terri" Group.)
You are entirely free to kill yourself, but to have everyone else in society condone your activities by making it some sort of "right" is another thing.
Actually, I was talking about assisted suicide being part of a public policy, as in supported by law i.e., public clinics. Nobody lives in a libertarian vacuum.
There are people who are in a state that they cannot kill themselves, they need assistance. Therefore, buy definition it becomes someone else's business. However, what happens when the wishes of the "infirmed" are unknown and someone else decides, that is also someone else's business.
Terri Schiavo NEVER made her wishes known in a way that previous judges would have allowed. There was nothing in writing. All that was ever presented was the word of her husband -- and this was YEARS after her condition developed. This was from a man who could in the best possible light be described as estranged from her, but was, in actuality, quite possibly responsible for her condition. Would you consider this to be "nobody's business"?
The eugenicists in Nazi Germany were able to murder millions of people who they deemed no longer worthy of living. They got away with it in large part because the "unaffected" adopted the attitude that it was "none of our business."
When it is a matter of life vs. death and good vs. evil, to adopt a utopian libertarian attitude that it's "none of my business" is actually to take the side of evil. There are many who say that the atrocities commited by Saddam in Iraq or the Taliban in Afghanistan never really affected the United States; that they may have hated us, but they never really threatened us. That we shouldn't be there, that it's "none of our business" -- in fact, this is the declared position of the Libertarian Party.
You know, one thing really puzzles me. Warren Buffet alledgedly supports Planned Parenthood, and agrees with world population reduction, so why would he be giving hundreds of billions of dollars to Bill Gates' Foundation, saying they will pay for finding cures to serious diseases and strive to alleviate world hunger, all to "save lives?" Euthanasia would certainly figure in controlling the size of world population. Will the real Warren Buffet please stand up?
My guess is that Gates and Buffett both own a lot of stock in biotech and pharmaceutical companies and see a nice payoff in developing these "cures." What they fail to grasp is that totalitarianism causes more hunger and death than any disease (with the possible exeption of a true pandemic).
