Duluth, Minn. Duluth has become the third U.S. city to become an Eco Municipality.
Ashland and Washburn enacted the Swedish-born sustainability program last year.
The Duluth City Council passed a resolution last month pledging to move toward four basic principles of sustainability: use fewer natural resources, use fewer man-made or synthetic chemicals, cause no additional degradation to the Earth and meet all human needs.

Sounds like a magnet for "Urban Outdoorsmen" (depend upon what they do for folks during the 8 cold months)!!!

Perhaps the land area should be recycled?

Sounds like I'll be paying more to help them reach their goal and I'm in the Cities. Why don't they start by draining that Great Lakes Aquarium back into Lake Superior to eliminate waste.

I left the North Star State after they built the aquarium. Would like to see it some time...

This is just super. Duluth is a great little city to visit. However, now I'd hate to threaten their eco-system with my introduction of non-native dollars and I'm afraid my carbon footprint will be too large for them to bear. I do hope their Chamber of Commerce sends me a mailing in advance of the ceremony celebrating this important event. I'd love to see the enlightened engage in self-flagellation and attempting to wash the stains of sins of taconite mining, logging, and heavy shipping out of the collective psyche of Duluth. Asshats...
I guess I'll have to change my view of Duluth. It is now a great city to bypass on my way to North Shore and Lutsen...

Every now and then there is a movement persuading people to return to the land and practice the less active habits of a simpler time which is found to be attractive among a few and touted as though it is epiphany itself; but, for the most part, the great majority of us will return to the land someday in a much more somber fashion and our regrets and ambitions will be made foundation for future generations who harbor age-old questions, doubts and lost opportunities.

The modern human garden is all about planting and harvesting and never about weeding and watering which explains its poor yield.

For a city on the edge of bankrupcy apparently they feel they still have money for foolishness.
They are being driven to the wall by retirement and health benefits which seemed affordable at the time, but now are eating them alive.

I was up there every few weeks for more than 10 years in the 80s and 90s. I covered the steamship fuel trade via a lighter vessel and shore facilities at Two Harbors, Silver Bay and Tac Harbor.
