KABUL, Afghanistan, June 27, 2006 — During a symbolic ceremony held at the Minister of Interior, 8,567 vehicles valued at $244 million were donated to the Afghan National Police by the international community, June 14.

"The contributions of these vehicles will help the security and police forces of Afghanistan to be more prepared to perform their duties."
Minister Moqbil, Minister of the Interior

The ceremony marked another step toward the growth and progression of a free and prosperous Afghanistan.

“The contributions of these vehicles will help the security and police forces of Afghanistan to be more prepared to perform their duties,” Minister Moqbil, Minister of the Interior, said during the ceremony.

Afghanistan fast approaches its goal to equip the Afghan National Police with quality training and hardware to ensure the mission success of the Afghan police.

Improving its capability with innovative equipment and training is only part of the overall Afghan National Police facelift. They also recently received thousands of new uniforms, millions ofrounds of ammunition, and thousands of new weapons of

all types including rocket propelled grenade launchers to Kalishnikov machine guns.

“The enemies of Afghanistan should be equally sure of what this all means. It means their days are numbered and that they cannot succeed against and the Afghan Security Forces,” the minister said.

The fleet of trucks, which will be dispersed throughout Afghanistan, will speak volumes for the creditability of the Afghan National Police. The Afghan National Police will also continue to receive new and better equipment, which will give them enhanced capability.

The Afghan National Army is also getting first rate equipment including individual body armor and kevlar helmets. They have stepped up the quality and intensity of their training with the opening of the Regional Command South recently.

“The citizens of Afghanistan can be sure that the [Afghan National Police are] making progress towards becoming a self-sufficient and professional force, capable of providing all Afghans the security and safety they so desperately want,” Moqbil said.
