I suspect that there'd be no need for the IDF to hit a bridge unless there was somebody on the bridge who was worth hitting.

Drudge has a piece stating that the bridge may have been destroyed to ensure the kidnapped soldier is not moved out of Southern Gaza.

No, the IDF has been hitting roads recently - roads used by missile launching cells to reach launch points - obviously in the vain hope this would prevent them from reaching the fields used to launch missiles. Maybe for the same reason they hit this bridge. Otherwise, it reminds me of the first months of the intifada, when the IDF bombed empty buildings as a "token" to show what the PA had to lose. Should be way past that point by now.

Taking out the infrastructure the enemy uses to make war is how to fight a war. In this case, they have to bomb the weapons workshops and metal workshops (again), raid the weapons caches. I assume that the IDF has gathered and is still trying to gather intel before going into Gaza.
