Poll: Michigan governor's race is close

Michigan's gubernatorial race between Democratic incumbent Jennifer Granholm and Republican challenger Dick DeVos is close, according to a poll released Wednesday.

Forty-six percent of 600 likely voters said they would vote for DeVos, while 44 percent said they would vote for Granholm.

Ten percent were undecided. The poll, by Lansing-based EPIC-MRA, had a sampling error margin of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

A previous poll, conducted June 5-9 by EPIC-MRA, had DeVos leading 48 percent to 40 percent. Both the Granholm and DeVos campaigns said when that poll came out that other polls showed the race much closer.

In the latest poll, conducted June 13 through Tuesday, 41 percent gave Granholm a positive rating and 58 percent a negative rating, with 1 percent undecided, similar to her numbers earlier this month.

Granholm campaign spokesman Chris De Witt said the latest poll shows the race is still close and that voters are unhappy with the policies of Republicans such as President Bush.

"Polling has consistently shown that the people of Michigan understand that it's the Bush economic policies that Dick DeVos supports that have caused the economic problems here in Michigan," De Witt said.

DeVos said Wednesday that the eight-point spread in the earlier poll appears to be an aberration.

"This is more consistent with what we have seen in the other polls that have been published," he said.

The new poll was conducted for television stations WXYZ in Detroit, WILX in Lansing, WOOD in Grand Rapids and WJRT in Flint.

Michigan's economy is really hurting and Granholm has never put forth a plan. Unemployment is currently at about seven and a half percent. People are fleeing the state. To some degree Granholm has inherited the shrinking auto industry, but she has not taken the bull by the horns and lead.

DeVos is an unknown who inherited all of his wealth from the Amway fortune; yet most I know want a change.

Although we don't really believe in polls. I would say the polls are saying the exact opposite. Amazing how the polls are positive for the democrats even when the republican is leading.

So much for the vaunted blowout of the GOP this election cycle.

Now, how can you say our economy is hurting? Jennie has raised every fee we have! She's even invented a few new ones, but none of them are "taxes". Our economy is just fine, thanks. Well, it is if you work for a big company, education, health care or the government. As for the rest of us poor fools who are balancing the budget on our backs, you're welcome.

And as for DeVos....will his campaign workers be going door-to-door, selling soap with the candidate's face on it? LOL!

Indeed she is. If you're not from here, it might amuse you to know that there's some local brouhaha about banning canadian garbage importation (one of the few profitable industries left in MI). Funnily enough, I had a petitioner come through my neighborhood, wanting me to help "get Canadian trash out of Michigan". Sadly, I was not quick-witted enough to ask him if he was working for the DeVos campaign :)

DeVos leading 48 percent to 40 percent

Not my definition of close, when the incumbent is on the losing side. Not to worry, though, vote fraud in Wayne County will keep her in office.

Granholm has really screwed things up. Of course, no matter who wins, the UAW will still run the state.

Time for the Rats to turn out the vote...early and often. And it's also time to get the dead voting, as well as felons and illegal aliens. If there's one thing the Rats can do well it's stealing elections.

DETROIT -- Michigan is home to six of the fastest-shrinking cities in the United States, according to population estimates released today by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Detroit, Lansing, Flint, Ann Arbor, Warren and Grand Rapids all placed in the top 60 among cities with more than 100,000 people as ranked by percent of loss. Demographers note the changes are estimates and represent a one-year, 2004-to-2005 snapshot. Still, Michigan's slumping economy is likely driving the trend.

"We've all seen the numbers in terms of job losses; it's really not surprising," said Jim Rogers, the data center manager for the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments. Rogers said population tends to follow employment trends.

This is great news for us in Michigan. Most of the Dems live in those areas of Michigan. Maybe there's hope for this state yet.

"Polling has consistently shown that the people of Michigan understand that it's the Bush economic policies that Dick DeVos supports that have caused the economic problems here in Michigan,"

Yep, that's why Michigan is the only state in the Union that has these drastic economic problems. It's Bush's fault. She has had almost 4 full years to do something about it and she waited till this year to come out with an economic plan. She should call it her "Anemic Plan"

When Jenny comes along,
You must whip her.
Whip her, Whip her good.
