WASHINGTON, D.C., June 20, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) A pro-homosexual group known as Center for the Study of Sexual Minorities in the Military (CSSMM), a think tank at the University of California, Santa Barbara, claims to have unearthed a current Pentagon document that lists homosexuality as a psychological disorder.
According to the CSSMM the Department of Defense Instruction that so categorizes homosexuality was signed by the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness in 1996 and re-certified as "current" in 2003.
Although homosexuality has traditionally been considered a psychological disorder the American Psychiatric Association (APA) removed homosexuality from its list of mental illnesses over thirty years ago, claiming that it "implies no impairment in judgment, stability, reliability, or general social and vocational capabilities." The APAs decision, however, has been the subject of criticism in recent years with some alleging that the 1973 move to remove homosexuality from the list of disorders was highly influenced by homosexual activism and not objective scientific data (http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2006/feb/06020902.html).
The CSSMM responded to what it has called an outdated and offensive classification of homosexuality by issuing a report card on the military, giving it 'F's' in four out of five categories, including "Mental Health Classification," "Anti-gay Harassment and Command Climate," "Evidence-Based Assessment of 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell'" and "Family Support."
Dr. Aaron Belkin, director of CSSMM, expressed grave concern that the military continues to list homosexuality as a mental illness. "It's unclear why a DoD document would classify homosexuality as a mental disorder over thirty years after the psychiatric community acknowledged this is a mistake," said Dr. Belkin. The vast majority of other military documents no longer list homosexuality as a mental disorder.
Current military policy still requires the discharge of members who openly profess their homosexuality, although the militarys dont ask, dont tell policy forbids recruiters from inquiring into the sexual activities or preferences of the recruit. However, the number of discharges from the military on account of homosexuality have dramatically increased in the last number of years as members have increasingly openly challenged the policy. The Supreme Court has many times over refused to hear cases challenging the constitutionality of the policy.
A 1998 report on the effectiveness of the militarys policies concluded that service by those who have a propensity to engage in homosexual conduct creates an unacceptable risk to morale, good order and discipline, and unit cohesion, and that the long-standing prohibition of homosexual conduct therefore continues to be necessary in the unique circumstances of military service.
Pentagon spokesman Lt. Col. Jeremy M. Martin said the offending document is under review.
Perhaps because they don't subscribe to your leftist pro-homosexual political correctness.
HUGE HA Ping!
Its a disorder. Lets leave it at that.
Get with the program homosexuality IS a mental disorder despite the unscientific holdings of the American Psychological Association and American Psychiatric Association.
These two allegedly scientific organizations are little more than the research arms of the homofascist movement.
Imagine the intimidation tactics that would be directed against either of those two organizations if they ever published one study critical of homosexuality.
There would be hell to pay if they contradicted their masters in the Gay Arrogance Movement.
Um, doesn't that sorta imply impairment of mental function?
The military, moreso than most occupations, is not a place for people who are predisposed to poor risk assessment.
When I see UCSB mentioned I know I need read no further.
What makes the CSSMM think that the APA is more accurate or influential in assessing the vocational attributes of soldiers than the Pentagon? Morons.
Wasn't Bill Clinton President in 1966. And isn't the Undersecretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness a civilian appointee Job?
Good news Mr & Mrs. Johnson, you're child is a boy AND he's bi-sexual!
Well, this makes me so proud to be a Gaucho .... /sarc
It was always considered a disorder until the pc police changed the tune.
Poop chuters are definitely not packing a full seabag.
That's it. I can't understand how gays say they have to openly profess their sexual orientation because they "can't live a lie" yet that is precisely what is expected of a military member who holds a security clearance. Every day you have to "live a lie" and not expose the exact nature of whatever it is that you are cleared for. Yet those same gays say they are not a security risk even though they openly say they can't keep a secret.
I know people who are gay, and/or bisexual. One would be hard-pressed to find a more messed-up group of people.
Hollywood says it ain't so. Homos are normal. Just watch Will and Grace to witness the true portrayal of the exalted lifestyle. Next year they will produce the Will and Trigger show--Hollywood had great difficulty finding a homosexual stallion but finally, to prove homosex is normal in animals too, they located a horse with said tendencies--I recall there was one in the Seattle area. The idea being that if animals exhibit such behavior then it must be normal for humans to follow suit.
oh yeah? try lurking at DU sometime
How bout, it just aint right!
"Panelists Recount Events Leading to Deleting Homosexuality As a Psychiatric Disorder From DSM:
"Twenty-five years ago APA leaders, in the glare of a national media spotlight, took the controversial step of deleting homosexuality from the Association's compendium of psychiatric disorders. That action launched APA on a quarter century of efforts to end discrimination against homosexuals and coincided with the increasing willingness of gay and lesbian psychiatrists to insist openly that APA must listen to them."
Interesting article. You can see how the gay community played a significant role in having this changed.
I've never seen a more depressed and unhappy people.
