The party's over
It's time to call it a day
They've burst your pretty balloon
And taken the moon away
It's time to wind up the masquerade
Just make your mind up the piper must be paid
The party's over
The candles flicker and dim
You danced and dreamed through the night
It seemed to be right just being with him
Now you must wake up, all dreams must end
Take off your makeup, the party's over
It's all over, my friend
Now you must wake up, all dreams must end
Take off your makeup, the party's over
It's all over, my friend
It's all over, my friend
It's funny that you posted the words to "The Party's Over". I got into a discussion with the guy who is doing work on my house last night about Clinton. The guy said he loved Bill Clinton, but as he talked about his various beliefs, I kept pointing out to him that the things he liked were Republican/Conservative beliefs and the things he didn't like (i.e. affirmative action, destruction of Traditional Middle America, etc.) were Democratic ideals. This morning, as I thought about his enthusiasm for Bill Clinton, all I compare it to is Bill Clinton as President is like having a neighbor who likes to party, but that's all he does and all he's good for. When he moves into the neighborhood, everyone wants him for a buddy. But eventually the partying gets old and everyone gets back to business.
I think that sums up the biggest danger in the upcoming '06 and '08 elections. Between the WOT and the negative, hate-filled press coverage since Clinton left office, people want to party again. They want to pretend terrorism doesn't exist; they want to pretend they are 6 years old again.
It's a simplistic theory, but I think it holds true. When people want to "play pretend," Democrats get elected.
