Swann in Trouble; Bush to the Rescue

LANCASTER COUNTY, PA - When it comes to opinion polls and raising money in the race for governor, Republican Lynn Swann is suffering a pretty decisive shellacking at the hands of Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell.

And now the White House wants to turn the tide.

President Bush has agreed to appear with the Republican NFL Hall of Famer at an Aug. 16 fundraising reception in Lancaster County, a Swann campaign official told the New Era.

“It is confirmed that we are going to get the president,” Joel Mack, the regional political director for Swann and running mate Jim Matthews, told the New Era Thursday afternoon.

“We’re still working on a location. In fact, we’re out here searching today,” Mack said. “We’re looking for anyplace right now. A lot of places that could accommodate a visit by the president are probably booked.”

The event is expected to be a private fundraiser only, unlike the massive public rally Bush held at the Lancaster Airport in October 2004, during his re-election campaign.

“It’s going to be a straight fundraiser and nothing else but a fundraiser,” Mack said.

I realize Rendell's doing well, but Swannie has raised well over $3 million in a short amount of time. He's by no means finished.

Football season is just around the corner and the elections as well. If I know Pitt football fans, they'll come around and remember Swannie at the polls! All Swann has to do is show old football film clips of himself and his SB rings! I have a gut feeling this guy is going to pull an upset...I should know, I'm a cowboy fan to the core!!

bush lost PA by about 1-2% in 2004.

Swann should get those voters plus some Pitt/Steeler democrats that should make for a very tight race.

Rendell will still have the cheating maching going in Philly but will not be more effective than in 2004.

Lynn Swann

The throwaway.

So the guy used to be able to catch a football.

Most folks don't care, they are worried about property taxes.

And what little Swann has said, doesn't scratch their itch.

I've said it before, I'll say it again.

Eddie by a large margin. Next governor.

Republicans are planning on who for 2010.

Swann needs to go into attack mode against Rendell. For example, take the latest so-called property tax reform. Rendell is all over the airwaves telling everyone what a great victory this is for the taxpayers. It's a scam, and Swann needs to tell this to the voters.

When I first saw the headline I thought maybe Jeb was going to shoot some of those gator's that are eating all the Swan's down in Florida.

I live in southern NJ, in the Philadelphia TV market, and I have not seen a single TV Ad for Swann yet, seen anything in print, nor heard anything on radio. Not one thing. If Swann is raising any money, he doesn't seem to be spending it. At least not in Philadelphia.

I wouldn't be advertising now either. He's already got high name recognition. He's still putting a network in place, and hopefully using his funds to pre-buy ads and raise more funds.

most of those voters are dead, so it will be hard for Swann to get them. But he will peel some yellow dogs away from Fast Eddie...who's the biggest sack of garbage left in our legislative housecleaning.

Swann bump! We need more visible elected Black Republicans around the country, especially since J.C. Watts retired a couple years ago.
