Army Gets New Commander
CLS NR 06.003 - June 15, 2006
OTTAWA – Canada’s Army got a new commander today during a ceremony at the Canadian War Museums presided over by Canada’s Chief of the Defence Staff.
Lieutenant-General Andrew Leslie succeeded Lieutenant-General Marc Caron as Chief of the Land Staff and Commander Land Forces Command in a ceremony officiated by General Rick Hillier, Chief of the Defence Staff.
“Lieutenant-General Caron is an exceptional Army leader and has been instrumental in the Army’s transformation. I thank him whole-heartedly and I wish him well as he enters a well-deserved retirement,” said General Hillier. “Lieutenant-General Leslie’s operational experience and strategic vision make him the right person to ensure our soldiers are trained and equipped to handle the challenges of the future.”
“Canadian soldiers risk their lives to offer stability and hope to people around the world,” said Lieutenant-General Leslie. “My job is to make sure that they continue to have the tools and training they need to succeed.”
Lieutenant-General Leslie previously served as Director General Strategic Plans at National Defence Headquarters.
Lieutenant-General Caron, who commanded the Army since February 2005, will be retiring this summer after 35 years of service.

I have read that Canada has some of the finest armed forces in the world. Unfortunately, they are hamstrung by their sissy politicians.

What is significant about this story is that within the Canadian Forces hierarchy (under the sustained influence and budget constraints of rampant PC Liberalism over the past decades) it takes a Lieutenant General to exercise command over all 1375 Canadian troops. (Intense Sarcasm!!!)
Our old friends to the North will have the Ragheads dictating Shiria Law in the Parliament before their pols recognize the Mortal Threat facing Western Democracy by Islam.

Harper can only change just SO many things at the same time. Once he acieves a majority government, watch for the roll backs of 40 years of liberal socialist hegemony. This will inspire the Canadian people to be who they are.
I can assure you that the Canadian People are not the PC mavins like the Liberal Aristocrat Socialists politicians and civil servants of the liberal party, who have been letting Canadians eat cake for 40 years. And when the country wakes up after 40 years of being put to sleep by Liberal Socialist Vampire Pols like Trudeau, then you will see the risk of Islamic domination in Canada fade into the distance like a mote of dust in the sliding wake of a lake canoe filled with laughing, giggling, and sometimes farting hosers.
Meanwhile , real Canadian soldiers have kept the faith through 40 years of Liberal Socialist crap.As yet their story is untold, but it is an heroic one about keeping the fire of patriotism kindled, and one I hope will not have to be repeated here in the USA , if the Dims under Hillery win the next prersidential election.Like Harper, we conservatives have many more nails to hammer into the Lefty Socialist Democrat coffin, so Truman style Dems might take the reins of the Dimwit party again.
Thankyou Canada. God bless the true , North, strong and free!

Harper?
Unless your talking about another Stephen Harper you are going to be sorely disappointed. That guy is more liberal than most California democrats. He is only marginally more conservative than the Chretien/Martin liberals.

Stay tuned, and watch the Scots down east, Canadas most patriotic etnic minority. They are the pulse of the new conservative Canada.

Read the Canadian Conservative platform for yourself, there is no significant difference between the conservatives and the liberals.

"Harper can only change just So many things..."
I so wish this were reality!
It would please me greatly to agree with your assessment of Canadian potential for resurrection of a National Steel Spine.
And, i well remember during the 50's and early 60's of the contributions the RCN made to our mutual Naval Services.
However, one only had to spend time in the Eastern Provinces to garner the clear tenor of the uphill battle Mr. Harper has.
Or visit the incredibly dilapidated Canadian Forces Naval Base at Esquimalt to see the truly pathetic state of readiness the Canadian Forces are in.
No, kind sir -- I cannot accept your optimism. Short of a 9/11 Plus, the Canucks will not even remotely accept a wake-up call. Too many of the public are in a state of total denial -- besides holding a latent antagonism re their Big Brother to the South.
Kindest regards.

My crystal ball is far more optomistic than yours!
I know what happened to the armed forces, having lived right next to Base Gagetown in New Brunswick from 1956 to 1977. I think Canadians can and will awaken. But then I also believe that King Arthur, the Knights of the Round Table, and the Holy Grail are part of our true leagacy, not pedantic vampiric Liberal Socialism.
LOL.

That platform means very little in Canadian politics, and the electorate knows it.
Harpers actions and demeanor undewr fire are what Canadians observe to establish their opinions.
Harper has become a very popular leader in Canada. Surprisingly, he is extremely well regarded in Quebec, which is highly unusual.
Mr. Harper is not your usual run of the mill Prime Minister. He even answers his e-mail, I know, I got one from him as an ex pat Canadian.

I would say the platform means a hell of alot because the center of the Canadian conservative strategy is appearing as nonthreatening as possible.
Look at the extremes the Conservatives go to keep their more embarrassing MP's out of the public spotlight. The MP in the area of Calgary I live in is Rob Anders - you would think that guy was in the witness protection program. The conservative approach to 90% of the old Liberal policies is stay the course. The only exception is Kyoto - which would have died a natural death regardless.

Too many of the public are in a state of total denial It's not denial, in order to be in a state of denial, some part of a person actually has to understand that he/she actually knows better.
Ain't no denial in it, just plain bloody ignorance and brainwashing.

I think your a little off the mark, but I respect your opinion. If Canada is to become free of it's lefty addiction, Canada is going to have to be weaned slowly. You don't kick a 40 year habit like that cold turkey. Things are happening quickly here by Canadian standards. We're slower to turn than you guys. You need to understand a little more about Canadians and our ways before you make sweeping statements, I think.
Believe me, I'm farther right than most Americans, and only a short few years ago, I was what one might consider a centrist. It is in a Canadian's nature, due to our history, to be reasonable and compromising. Yes, I know it is foolhardy, but that's the way it is. We are slowly shifting to the right. A 9-11 would galvanise Canadians to an extent not seen since the threat of the Nazis.
Nothing will piss a Canadian off as much as our country being threatened, regardless of what the media might have you believe in the wake of the arrest of these terrorists last week.

I am not throwing arrows from afar - I live here.
The only reason the present conservative government is acceptable to the Canadian public is because there is no discernible difference between them and the liberals.
If they were to let Rob Anders and friends out of their cage they would fall apart.
Although a few weeks ago I was told the tale of Stockwell Day - so it does fortunately seem that the Canadian conservatives do have some self preservation instincts. The Republicans have to depend on the democrats self-destructive tendencies to mitigate our fools.
