Khamenei rejects 'carrots and sticks' nuclear deal
(Filed: 16/06/2006)
The supreme leader of Iran yesterday gave the sternest rejection to date of the international package of incentives designed to coax Teheran into abandoning its nuclear ambitions.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said: "The Islamic Republic of Iran will not bend to these pressures."
He was referring to the diplomatic "carrots and sticks" agreed earlier this month by America, Britain, France, Germany, China and Russia.
These included an offer of help with a civilian nuclear programme and the threat of travel bans for senior Iranians.
His comments came as Washington used a meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna to warn Iran that it would face "the weight of the [UN] Security Council" if it failed to comply.
The IAEA heard two reports from its chief, Mohamed Elbaradei, that Iran had failed to co-operate with inspectors seeking to allay concerns that the Islamic republic was trying to build a nuclear bomb.
The reports, one from April 28 and the other from last week, also show Iran is pressing ahead with uranium enrichment.
No to "carrots and sticks"? Ok, how about some "Pershings", "Minutemen", & a few "Tomahawks"? There's an "offer" you can't refuse!!
I wonder what now.
Another UN meeting, of course.
""The Islamic Republic of Iran will not bend to these pressures." "
OK. He's given us an answer. Let's accept it and get on with the next step....sanctions.
What a comfort.
The UN should pass a resolution. That will show Iran that everyone is serious about this.
Perhaps even 2 resolutions. That'll clear it right up.
More offers of diplomacy, my offer would be surrender
now or die where you stand, your personal drone is awaiting
your next move.
Nothing much really.
