Tenure is a double edged sword. On one hand it protects professors from retaliation by the university administration but on the other hand it protects morons like Churchill.

One of my professors at Texas A&M is despised by the administration because he is a conservative and is always at odds with their positions. Since he has tenure, they can't get rid of him. However, he'll never get a promotion to a higher pay level.
