While the doggie-bots around here will never admit this, based upon my observations, a clawed kitty of the domestic type can whup just about any domestic dog. Now we can add bear to the list.

All too true. Anyone that owns a cat knows they're not anywhere near being domesticated.

One of my cats is all lovey dovey most of the time; then he strips a gear and goes nuts and starts attacking everything including me. It's pretty cool looking when he has his claws deployed except when they're dug into my flesh and he lays on his back and does his disemboweling move by kicking with his back legs while he's got me locked in with his front legs.

If he was bigger, I'd be worried.

My cat surely has kicked the arse of all my dogs... but of course, my dogs, like most mixed-household pets have all been trained not to touch kitty... it's not exactly a level playing field. I've seen just how fast a dog without such rules of engagement can take out a cat, and it ain't pretty.

Yes, but this DECLAWED kitty has HEART! Nothing's going to mess up HIS domain! He should be made Cat of State!

My late grandfather had a German Shepherd named Duke that was a notorious cat killer. Until "Chimp" came along, that is. Imagine a 23 pound grey tabby Manx with seven fully functional claws on each front foot.

Their first meeting consisted of a low growl from Duke followed by profuse bleeding. That dog not only never touched another cat, he didn't want to be in the same county as one.

I have two dogs, one's half chocolate lab and half Weimaraner, about 8 years old, and the other's half lab and half Great Dane, about 6 months old. I also have a fully clawed 8 pound cat. Long ago the cat achieved complete domination over the Weimador; she's still working on the Daneador, but the chances are he'll succumb too.

One of my cherished memories is seeing the family cat riding the neighborhood alpha dog (a large and very mean german shepherd) down the street. That dog never every chased another cat, and when he had occasion to pass our house he always did so on the far side of the street. hehehe

Unfortunately, the key words are "just about." Here's a photo of my ex-girlfriend, and my two pals, Fred (the cat) and Jack (the bulldog).

Fred and Jack were buddies. Unfortunately, my ex-girlfriend lives in a city where pit-bulls are illegal, and one of her neighbors has one illegally. Well, it got out, and tore Fred to shreds. And the neighbor tried to hide the remains of Fred, but another neighbor notified the police and my ex. She and Fred had been together for nearly 10 years, and she's shattered by the loss. I know Fred was an animal and not a child, but still, they were very close, and I feel the loss, because he and I were buddies. Heck, I still go there every now and then to see "the kids." I miss Fred. He was a very cool cat.

Of course, if she had a child, and the pitbull had gotten out and hurt a child, I would have driven the 350 miles with my Benelli Super 90 12 gauge and my S&W 629, and that would have been the end of it. As it is, I hope that the neighbor gets hit with a massive fine.

I have dogs and cats. My cattle dog and my desert lynx sometimes spar. They each have a great deal of respect for the other. Fun to watch. Each likes to lead with his butt.

Dogs are nicer then cats. When the dog is playing and the cat is fighting the cat wins.

When both are fighting the fight lasts about 2 seconds (unless of course the dog is tiny).

BTW dogs tree bears so routinely it's not reported.
